Well the capsten works fine. Filled it with 140w. Still leaks but less. And yes I can engage it in idle. Just needed the courage to push the lever in.

However I got a strange noise from the pulley or fanbelt. So I took off the belt and still got the strange noise, so took off the pulley and it stopped.
So somehow the pulley must have been rubbing very slightly against something inside the timing case - there is a dust cover there I think.
I put it back on and tightened a little less than the manual.
Everything turns great but will keep an eye on it.

Portrayal Press has reproduction copies of the Braden winch manual.

You can Google them they are located in New Jersey USA and send out international mail.

Good luck

Hello,

spare parts, esp original ones, are VERY hard to find and VERY expensive...

Those of us, who have additional parts will most likely keep them. At least that is what I do.

The cheapest way of getting a winch ist buying a complete set if one apperas for sale.

There are dealers with very good reproduction parts and there is one dealer who has original parts every now and then... but prepare to bring your big wallet for that.

Good luck on your hunt!

You can find some original parts from Eagle and also Wildenburg (spelling ?) who are both in Holland. Easy to find on the net.
Good repro parts are also available in the States. I’ll have to find my web links.
And recently I saw a complete capsten repro kit in France which is pure herasy for me.
My opinion : you need to find at least an original head. And mounting plate if you can. The rest is not visible and the US repro stuff is probably better quality than the originals.

I recently purchased the reproduction rope guide from capstanwinch.com
While they state that the parts are for the civilian models in lieu of military, I have found the the guide will not fit my CJ2A bumper, but will fit my MB bumper.
Kai of Capstanwinch.com stated that they have not heard of this problem and insist that the original from which the reproduced was in fact civilian.
The MB/GPW bumper is 1-5/8'" deep while the 2A bumper measures 2".
Did the CJ2A require the MB bumper when using the linkbelt winch?
Or did Willys provide a different part when they changed the part number?
Thanks
Dale
