David V wrote: ↑Thu Jul 12, 2018 7:08 amWell I have some 140W. Could try that. I can't find 600W here. ( we call it track lube here for bulldozer tracks, old school stuff)
@EJB - yes I saw the loop on the gasket. And I have a spare but I think there is an oil seal around that little shaft and I don't remember seeing one when I took it apart. Guess it'll have to come off again to check...
And engaging with the motor running - That scares me. I would have though those 3 fingers would have been ripped off. And I don't have a spare one.

Re: Braden Capstan Winch - Spare Parts - Discussion
Had to take off my capsten today to change an elastic, squeaky fan belt.
Look what I discovered... I was thinking that maybe the 3 studs that go into the pulley would show signs of wear but they're perfect.
This surprised me.
I've been using the capsten for demos for about a year or so now but not with any strain on it.
I'm not going to try and straighten it out.

Hi David
I saw new NOS winch connector rod eye for sale on eBay just last week...... I'm going to buy one or pick up a spare in case you break yours trying to straighten it.
I have a spare for my winch.
Good luck

I'll look for it. I can't find my Capsten manual - what's the part number for this pin ?

Re: Braden Capstan Winch - Spare Parts - Discussion
Hi David,
My earlier message got garbled....I wasn't suggesting I'm going to buy one ( I have a complete spare Winch assembly), but that you may want to buy one as a spare.
I have the original Capstan Winch field kit manual part number A-9232, that came with my NOS Capstan Winch Assembly 30 years ago.
There are a few pictures of what I refer to as the eye bolt shaft which is bent on yours.
Unfortunately all the pictures show that Eye Bolt Shaft as part of entire Winch Drive Shaft Support Bracket Assembly part number A10284. (For clarity that's the part with the three legs that mount to the engine)
I also have a manual that covers the Braden J2 Winch installation and parts for all three vehicles it was used on including MB/GPW G503, Ford GPA G504, Studebaker Weasel G179. All the pictures in that manual also show the eye bolt shaft as part of the broader A10284 assembly mentioned above.
I also have Capstan Winch ORD 7 SNL G503 June 51 which does show a breakdown for Capstan Winch controls with no pictures.
Under this breakdown there is a part referred to as Shifter, Drive Shaft Hub part number WO - A9207. Possibly that's the part number you're looking for ?
The eBay listing for it was by the well-known Capstan Winch seller out of Netherlands. I think he goes by Eagle Ordinance.... Maybe others here could confirm or provide a link to his website.
I wouldn't try straightening it if it still works before you get a replacement. Straightening it could easily break it.
Good luck,
Gary Schultz

Cheers for the info Gary
I'm going to contact capstanwinchparts and see if I can buy a couple of these eye bolt shafts from them.
That's where I got the support bracket assembly A10284 fro them.
Although maybe Eagle will have one.

New to the forum and not sure if I should post this here or in another section (please direct me if that’s the case). I have a newly acquired Braden J2 capstan winch that I’m now working to restore. Does anyone have an original mounting plate available for sale?

THIS MAY BE A LITTLE OFF TOPIC, BUT IT DOES HAVE TO DO WITH CAPSTAN WINCH. I’M LOOKING FOR A BRACKET THAT BOLTS TO THE HEAD ON A GPA THAT IS USED TO MOUNT/ADJUST THE CLUTCH DOG FOR A GPA WINCH. IT HAS THREE MOUNTING HOLES THAT USE 3 HEAD BOLTS. ITS STAMPED STEEL, AND A 90 DEGREE PIECE. HOPING MAYBE SOMEONE CAME ACROSS THIS BRACKET. BEEN LOOKING FOR A WHILE... ANY LEADS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED... THANKS. JOHN ENGELKE.

You could try contacting Darcy Miller at MV Spares. He sells some GPA stuff and he has the knowledge.john engelke wrote: ↑Mon Feb 22, 2021 9:11 amTHIS MAY BE A LITTLE OFF TOPIC, BUT IT DOES HAVE TO DO WITH CAPSTAN WINCH. Re: Braden Capstan Winch - Spare Parts - Discussion
Hello everyone. New guy here who stumbled on a wartime capstan winch head. I have an unmolested '45 GPW and am considering working towards outfitting my GPW with it. Did not take long to figure out that used and NOS winch components are difficult to come by to say the least. I wanted to ask about the seller on EBay out of India who sells reproduced parts? Thoughts or recommendations?
Thanks in advance,
Ron
