Pertronix Ignitor troubleshooting

Post by legacykingx » Sat Apr 01, 2023 8:08 am

I just installed a Pertronix Ignitor ignition on my 43 GPW with original 6V system. No Joy when attempting to start it. No spark at all. Anyone else run into this?

I have installed several Pertronix units in several different type vehicles.
Never had a problem.
First thought, where did you get the unit? A supplier or E-bay, etc.?
Next there are several different units for different distributors. Positive & negative ground and different voltages.
You sure you have the right unit for your app?
The units are wired differently from stock wiring. You sure you have it wired correctly?
There is always a bad ground issue that can cause grief even though the powered side of the circuit is correct. A bad ground has been the reason for a lot of hair loss.
If all else checks out, could be a bad unit.
And if bought second hand, the previous owner could have done something to destroy the unit and moved it on.
Happens.
I don't know of any test procedures other than, if the unit is correct for the app. Installed correctly and getting power but doesn't work. Must be a bad unit.
One last thought. Why did you install the Pertronix?
Was there a spark problem that was still there after the switch?
Maybe a bad coil or some other problem that still exists.
