6v LED projector headlights

Post by Andy K » Wed Apr 01, 2020 8:04 am

Hi all, been spending a little lockdown time on reworking my headlights. Knowing how the average driver here in the UK seems to see nothing past there phone or satnav, i wanted to upgrade my headlights to make the small matt green vehicle a little more visible to them.
I have 2 rules, firstly mod has to be done without altering main components and can be reversed easily so you'd never know it'd been done. Secondly, nothing should stand out as different, i.e. to most folk it looks completely original.
I came across 2 x 6v LED projector bulbs a little while ago and picked up a couple of 5+1/2" inch motorcycle headlights with the idea it might come together.
The headlamp glasses needed a packing ring behind as they're thinner on the outer lip than the sealed beam unit, 2 rings of 3mm HDPE cut and that sorted that.
Fitting the bulbs was a fiddle and next time i'll buy the right fitting bulb, that said after altering the fitting ring carefully, they're in!
I'm working my way to fitting indicators (sorry, more heresy) so i've routed the front blackout marker lights up to the side lights in the headlamp. Excuse the blue crimp connector in the marker light, it wasn't me honest, I found it like that!
So I'm tracking down some more parts to fit indicators and a second cat eye rear light and loom to fit to the passenger side.

Not been out yet Wolfman, we're all having to stay in here, no unnecessary travel :-( I'll follow up with some pictures as soon as we're allowed out.

Some pics to give some idea of the lights
Sidelights
No lights
Low beam
High beam

Doesn't show much difference between low and high but it is brighter on high, honest! I need to set the light alignment yet so as not to dazzle too much.

That is quite an impressive improvement.
Might be aimed a little high and left.
May get an unpleasant response from on-coming traffic.
???
Your in France ??
Which side of the road do you drive on there ???
Never mind. You are in the UK.
I was thinking of someone else. :?
