No Email notifications
Ok, restarting this discussion here VS over on the MB/GPW technical link where the OP had asked.
For some time now many individuals have not received e-mail notification if they have either responded to or 'subscribed' to a post.
Not sure what's up, but at least HERE we can test out any changes in the proper area and maybe get a resolution.

Okay, I’m here, I changed all notifications to email as a test. Has anyone managed to fix this notification issue?

Well if it was supposed to work, it didn't for me, as I have no e-mails or junk emails from G503,and I set up the post.
So, this still stinks.

Re: No Email notifications
Let's see if we can narrow this down. In the past we've had issues with servers and SMTP access being cut off. that isn't the case right now.
No errors logged. I'm receiving email notifications of new topics. the admin email test button results in an email that says
"Congratulations. If you received this email, phpBB is correctly configured to send emails."
Looking for a reply to test
as i write this i can see below that "Notify me when a reply is posted" is checked on.

Re: No Email notifications
Okay, with only emails checked, I don’t get emails. So now I’ve checked everything! Notifications and emails. Is there some other area I’m missing. I also Jane notify me when a reply is posted.

Re: No Email notifications
I'm getting all email notifications. but...
I did discover that at some time google gmail decided to start placing my incoming notification emails in a tagged folder called 'Promotions' that I normally ignore.
great, so now I have a different place I have to look for missing emails.
anyway, I see nothing on this end that would indicate an issue with emailed notifications. that's not to say it isn't this end's problem, I just think at this point its more likely to be on your end.
Verify your email address in your profile. that address still works right?
search your email for a title like "Topic reply notification" and see if your email server or client is misplacing them for you.
search for the above and maybe note the time and date of the very last one you received.

Re: No Email notifications
Thanks Chris, I'm a Hotmail user, they have gone through several iterations of Outlook/Microsoft/Gmail while keeping the SMTP address forwarding, so I'm grandfathered with my old address, and that may be the issue here.

Re: No Email notifications
Both Hotmail, and therefore probably other outlook.com email services, and Gmail have decided that email notifications from either g503.com or the IP address of an upstream email server are most likely spam And bounce all messages to them from us.
The reason I didn't see the problem in Gmail is because I'm using an email address that goes to a different email service before being forwarded to Gmail.
So the problem isn't on your side. And well, not on our side either. but we may be able to convince them we aren't spam by jumping trough a bunch of hoops. And that will take time. Because us volunteers have a 2 hoop limit per week.

Re: No Email notifications
Thanks Chris, not sure what we could do on our end which wouldn't result in a flood of 'other' real spam making it through.

PS: normally I think an e-mail OUT to the G503's server site would establish the non-spam relationship, but if we never receive the e-mail, we cannot reply back to it. Perhaps there is a site e-mail to break through this blockage. WAW

I checked and my last message was from server@g503.com and that address doesn’t exist anymore. Where would I find out what address is g503.com using?

Re: No Email notifications
For quite some time, email notifications have been addressed from ron@g503.com
But if you send an email to that, it won’t go to this server, it will go to a different set of email servers and then to Ron’s inbox.
It probably won’t help much to try. But if you do, tell Ron I said hi!

This issue has been creeping up on us for a while now
so I'll do my best to get it resolved, using this thread
as a means of keeping track of the steps involved.
Please feel free to post any suggestions or comments
if you feel so inclined.
Here are the other related posts (that I am aware of) that address this issue:

Thank you Ron, Chris & to all of the participants for highlighting the problem.
Here is a sampling of bounced notification emails from the server logs
that provide informative clues:
Obviously the Forum's IP address, for one reason or another, has, over time,
developed a poor Server Repution with regards to outgoing email.
An attempt to repair this repution would probably be a waste of time
because an IP address change will likely be needed anyway, to have better control
over it's Reverse DNS setting. Our cloud host services are currently provided
by Amazon Web Services (AWS) and they provide a service they call Elastic IPs
for which you have the ability to customize Reverse DNS settings.
Since the server's IP is going to change, step one would be reducing the
forums.g503.com hostname Time To Live (TTL) value in it's DNS record
to a small value, in order to minimize connection issues that some users might
experience while the new IP settings propogate around the global network.
This I did last night, changing the 4 hour value to 15 minutes (the smallest
increment provided), in order that the option to switch would be available today.
The next step would be to obtain an Elastic IP and attach it to
the Forum's server instance. I'll post again to let you know how that went.
