This issue has been creeping up on us for a while now
so I'll do my best to get it resolved, using this thread
as a means of keeping track of the steps involved.
Please feel free to post any suggestions or comments
if you feel so inclined.
Hi Ken,
Last time I have received a mail from the server was on ... Sept, 3rd 2017  !
It was a mail from ron@g503.com with title "New private message has arrived" to tell me:
You have received a new private message from "xxxxxx" to your account on "G503 Military Vehicle Message Forums" with the following subject:
Hello Chris,

At the time my email address in my G503 profile was my main address @proximus.be
A little later I remember having changed that email address for my secondary @gmail address.
Now, a few minutes ago, I've again changed my address with my main address @proximus.be

Could you send me a test PM to see if it works again ?

Last week I've sent hours on my customer server to resolve a similar problem.
Since a few days he was no longer receiving "Call for price" notifications from his customers.(In the past I had modified the script code to add all inquiries in a database record, just as a precaution for that type of problem. Good precaution  .
The problem was due to a new Gmail policy starting on October 1st.
The customer fixed the problem by replacing his email address by a non-gmail one.
Perhaps the problem is also linked to Gmail on your server.

Thanks
Yves

Finally I got a mail with a popup on my screen a few minutes ago when a PM from Chris arrived and is waiting in my mailbox  .
Thanks Chris.
So the issue is caused by a Gmail.com address. Exactly like on my customer server.
I guess each G503 user with a Gmail address should get to the "Less secure apps" settings in Gmail and allow the application G503.

Just crazy.

I'm happy, thanks Chris !

Hopefully that won't be necessary. I'm working on jumping through the hoops
that Gmail requires (since Oct. 1 apparently) regarding SPF, DKIM and DMARC etc.
I'll let you know...

And what makes me more happy, is that I receive again a PM when my post is quoted !
Yes problems with Gmail with what Google calls "Less secure apps" were starting since Oct 1st.
It seems that they have extended the restriction to all websites

I've made quite a few changes relating to reverse dns (rDNS), postfix Mail Transport Agent (MTA) configuration,
hostname settings, etc. Gmail seems to be working as well as the Outlook systems like Hotmail and MSN.
Needs more testing & monitoring but it's looking good so far.

Hi Ken,
I have changed my account email address back to my secondary Gmail address to test if I would still receive the notifications after your last mods.
My account has been blocked/inactivated as soon as I have entered the correct password to validate the change.
I have received that message in red.
The specified username is currently inactive. If you have problems activating your account, please contact a board administrator.

I would like to understand how to contact the administrator when the account is blocked 😊
Thanks God, I had Ken and Bill email addresses.
Thanks for having re-activated my account.

Now I will check if I still receive the notifications with the Gmail address.

Using an email testing account, conveniently named EmailTest,
I have been working through the red flags with the services of mail-tester.com.
With an initial score of -3.5 out of 10 :o, we're now up to 9/10 and almost all
outgoing mail is being sent successfully. Here's a chunk of the log:

Hi Ken

Whatever you did, I received the first email that I have gotten in six months just now, on this thread. That makes me happy!! I’m a straight gmail address, no forwards or redirects.
It came from ron@g503.com

Interestingly it seems selective, by that I mean Kens post didn't stimulate a notification, but Mark's follow-up to Kens did.
Not complaining. Its now functional with many thanks.

I am now not receiving notifications on other forums topics I have posted on. Is it somehow selective?
