MS Windows: HOW TO resize your photos in a breeze for upload.
I often read that forum users have a real problems to resize photos.
"I have no time" or "I don"t know how to do" or vice versa or both
I've already posted how to do it with a smartphone or tablet, using free apps like Photo-resizer.
Here is how to make your life much better under MS Windows.
Download the free Microsoft Powertoys from here: https://github.com/microsoft/PowerToys/releases/
The current version is show here :
Execute the program to install to Powertoys tools.
Reboot your PC.
Once rebooted you will have new contextual options when you right click on an image file or on multiple selected photos like this :
Select your image or set of image and right click then select Resize pictures:
You will see these options :
If you want to be sure to be able to upload that photo on the G503 forum, use the Small option.
Powertoys will then resize the photos to a size < 256Kb required in a breeze, keeping the originals.
You just have to use the resized photos in your posts on G503.
That's it.
FINE TUNING ONCE FOR ALL
If you want to adjust the default size corresponding to Small or Medium of whatever so that it's much closer to the maximum allowed size on G503,
click on the Powertoys icon in the lower left part of your windows desktop like this:
Play with the options as shown in the Powertoys options Window:
If you want to get rid of the resized photos after having completed your post on G503, that's easy:
Each resized photo was renamed with the size marker, like this xxxxxxx(Small).jpg
Just select each photo with the (Small) trailer and delete them.
Hope it will help G503 user using MS Windows.

My method is to use the resize option in email, I send the resized pictures to myself and then save the pictures on my computer.
I also save my pictures in email under separate albums, name them under subject to keep them organize.

That’s a very clever way of reaching the goal.
My only concern is that it uses the network bandwidth...which is Internet in our case.

Never had a problem with standard stock photo/picture apps
A picture can be re-sized in about 30 seconds......

I resize photos using Snipping Tool. Takes about 3 seconds. Been using it for years. I have literally thousands of photos posted on the G that were resized that way.

Hello,
I know. The title says MS Windows but ...
If you use a Mac and want to reduce an image's file size:
In the Preview app on your Mac, open the file you want to change (double click it). Choose Tools > Adjust Size, then select “Resample image.” Enter a smaller value in the Resolution field. The new size is shown at the bottom.
(You could also change the size by using less pixels)
No need to download anything.
Greetings
Hans

I'll probably be moving this thread to Forums.g503.com because it's that important
and useful and should be easily accessible to others

Well, if you are running Windows XP, all you have to do is open your image with the Microsoft Picture Manager, select "Re-Size" and then from the drop down menu select pre-determined size and then select "Web Large". You will always wind up with a file that will post on the G503. Usually the file is around 100K. If you want to save your original file, after re-sizing it with Picture Manger, just do a "Save As" re-name it and you wind up with both files.
I have yet to figure out if Windows 10 has the Picture Manager.
The Microsoft Picture Manager in Windows XP is one the best image processing software programs that I have ever used. You can easily crop the image, enhance it with filters, change the brightness and contrast and perform other functions such as Re-Sizing. It will handle bit mapped and JPEG files. It along with Paint are the two best programs to use to create common sense two dimensional images. No need for 3D for what I do. I also use WORD to set the exact physical size of an image and Hewlit-Packard Image Zone to perform other image processing using their filters.

Would it be possible to get a slightly bigger image preview? On my screen the images tend to look about 300 pixels wide, of course if you click the image it will open the full image up, but doing so means you have to click back (which often reloads the page again). Maybe I'm doing something wrong

I use the G503 photo hosting site here. I think it's the best. Have used it for 10 years now I think. I have posted a primer on using the site before, but I'll have to look for it. It's been a while. Here's the link to the G503 photo hosting site:'42 Peep's Motorpool wrote: ↑Tue Apr 06, 2021 3:57 pmHi Zeph!
