G503 under attack?

Post by artificer » Sat Oct 05, 2019 9:36 pm

Same thing happened a few years ago, didn't it?

The last few days & nights it has been nearly impossible to log on to the G.
Is some grub/s trying to destroy Ron's great G503 site?
What is a DoS attack?
A DoS, or a Denial of Service attack, is a concentrated effort by hackers to limit or completely eliminate web traffic to a particular website, server, or online service.

There are a lot of ways one can perform a DoS attack, the most famous and prevalent being a DDoS — or “distributed denial of service” — attack, which involves forcing or tricking a bunch of computers into flooding a server with data to the point where it can’t be used.

Understand how system parts interact with one another. GOOD parts can then be established & the NOT GOOD problem/s part/s isolated for repair or replacement.

I have been having the same issues and was wondering the same thing. If not an attack then there is lots of unplanned maintenance going on lately.

That's certainly not a DDos !
Under DDos, the web site would have replied to any query with a 404 error. A DDos kills the server as long as it continues.

The G503 web site was always ON as normal but under maintenance.

This is likely a maintenance or any other development or upgrade.
A PHP, MysQL or Apache upgrade (or all together) is not an easy task and it takes time.

For many websites you will get a heads up for routine maintenance to alert you of outages and the estimates for time.

I guess it would be the case with Ron commercial website, but the forum is not so vital  .

it's not routine maintenance. and its not a DOS.
good old fashioned hardware issue causes too few resources for the board to work right for everyone at all times.
Ken thought he had it licked the other day but it came back. He is still working on it.
but right now we have no idea when or if the symptoms are going to return.

Did the problem come back? Three times in the last 24 hours my shopping list was deleted before I could finish shopping. I was only shopping for twenty minutes or so. Since it was late I tried using the wishlist feature in the hope it would be saved after I logged off for the night but it too was deleted when I checked back the next day. I started over from a fresh login today and the list disappeared again in twenty minutes or so.

Finally! Got the order placed by going through a manual list and just "buying" instead of taking my time to "shop".
