Hello Oy,

Welcome to the G !!!

There are many Australian members on the forum, it would better seen if you posted the questions up in the Jeep History Research section towards the top of the forum, as more people will see it there and hopefully could provide some information :D

Now, is your Jeep a British Jeep, that ended up in Australia ?

The British have an Archives that would have a record if it was a British jeep that was sold, or transferred post war.

But if it is a BRT marked jeep on the data plate, that is another whole area of research !
There are a few of those jeeps that are being found in the USA, I actually was lucky to get one recently, but in need of a major restoration.

The BRT jeeps, I assume, were marked at the Toledo, Ohio factory designated to be sent to Britain.
All the Willys MB jeeps were made in Toledo during WW2.
These jeeps were destined for Britain either as a direct purchase or part of a Lend-Lease arrangement.

The BRT Jeeps have a special aspect to them, but hopefully others that have greater information on them, will be able to post their knowledge here !!!

There also were Russian and Chinese marked ones as well :D :D :D
Super rare naturally.

Post some pictures of your jeep before, during, and after restoration, we all love pictures !!

Best Regards,
Ray

Hello Oy,
In case you do not have it, here are the registration data of your jeep in the official Australian Military Vehicles registration diary #14

Willys_ENGINE-MB152315-FRAME_MB148133.png

Your jeep was imported in Australia by Dominions Motors?

Is it still the same engine #?

Hello Oy,
638632w2 is the engine block casting number, not the engine serial number.
Look on the right side of the engine, right side of the oil filter. The serial number should be there.

appears it that the "panel" has nothing on it other then a dash- I'll need to remove the oil filter to have a good look as to if it has the remnants of a number or if its been ground down,

Have a look also on top of the water pump on the flat surface in front of the engine.
Perhaps you have a rebuilt engine, like my jeep engine.

A number on top of the water pump boss is POST war only; and some rebuilders stamped there, but it is not original. WW2 jeep engines are all marked on a boss on the right front side of the block. Look there.

Thank you - looks as if rebuilt but no numbers in either location
Is it wise to restamp or leave blank

Hi Oy, I would leave it blank. That location is difficult to see anyway. From the Aust. Army excerpt it looks like the original engine was MB-152315.
The MB's frame / chassis numbers and engine numbers were progressively getting "out of step" as manufactured engines were also used in generators etc.
Only GPW's were stamped with the same number on the frame and data plate as the engine number. (if the GPW owner is lucky enough to still have all numbers matching)
You did a great job getting your vehicle back to the condition it is in now.
Cheers!
