In reading these post I had no idea there were that many manufactures. I have 20 or so origional cans in my garage mostlly gas but some water. Some have the lids still on them some don't, Several years ago an old vet went by the name of "old sarge" was put in the nursing home. He had a rusted out hulk of a Bantom trailer that I bought from his son. Went to pick it up and his son asked if I would wanted the cans. Said they were going to dig a big hole and just bury all the junk. I hated to see them destroyed so went around and collected all I could find. Had a thought to sand blact them and see if I could find screw tops and rubber seals for the ones that were missing. Just have never goten around to messing with them. I was never sure they were worth all the fuss. Can anyone point me to replacement screw tops and seals anymore?

Hi Luca,Alasdair Brass wrote:I would be interested to know how many cans had the manufacturers name and other details pressed into(actually out) the can under the three handles. I have one like this. The brand is N.S.I. and it is marked 43. I wonder if someone read the "ISN" upside down on the list above. I have checked to make sure I have it correct and as there are full stops (periods) between the letters, I feel I am correct.
I notice this N.S.I. brand has not been added to your list of manufacturers.
Best regards

Hi Fellow jeepers
I thought that i would jump on the band wagon as well, a few months ago i managed to get my hands on a NESCO Water can dated 1942 in fairly good nick , the Amercians had thousands of G.I's stationed here in New Zealand during WW2 and trained here on thier way to the Pacific to fight the Japs, bringing all their equipment including jeeps with them.
I have not seen many water cans come up for sale very often, and was pleased when this one i have now came up for sale, getting it for about $20US which also matches the year of my GPW (1942)
Well ive had my 2 cents worth.
P.S A good book to get hold of (if you can) is "The Yanks are Coming" The Amercian invasion of New Zealand 1942-1944. A very good book but i think is out of print.
Happy jeeping all.

Hi All
I just got a large dent out of my 1942 NESCO water can using the following procedure, first i went out and brought a second hand Scissor jack for a couple of dollars (they come with most NZ japanese imported cars), then as it still wouldnt fit into the mouth of the water can (only just) i took to the base and the top of the jack with the angle grinder and modified slightly so it woud fit, then placed it inside of the water can and moved it around until it was in the right place, then turned the screw on the jack by hand until it raised far enough and started to push the dent out, as it started to push the dent out the jack became harder to turn by hand so i got a small stubbie screwdriver out of the tool box (ideal size to move around inside a water can) and continued, if you need to you can place a flat piece of wood (no wider than the mouth of the can, OF COURSE ) inside and sit it on top of the jack to push out larger dents.
Hope this helps others, it worked well for me and faster than filling it with water and putting in the freezer over night.
Happy jeeping all.

Request copy of can list
I'm restoring a 1941 Scout Car and am looking for 1941 cans. If anyone has one or two I'd like to buy them and would also like a copy of this phantom list I keep reading about.
