1943 GPW engine value??
What is a 1943 GPW engine that has been completely gone thru worth ?? Engine was hot tanked and cleaned, sonic checked both block and head. Block then was sleeved back to standard bore, cam bearings installed along with new cam and timing gears. Of course new pistons, pins, and rings were installed. Crank was turned .010 and .010. Head was slightly planed for true flatness. Has original generator from 1943, as is starter and distributor. Has fuel pump with primer lever and water pump along with fan. Has intake and exhaust manifolds along with 636 carb. Bellhousing and flywheel included. This engine has never been started and has been sitting inside about 3 years. VALUE ????

Re: 1943 GPW engine value??
I wish I could afford it. That's just what I need for my '43 GPW. Currently I have one running MB engine plus one running CJ2A engine plus one running CJ3A engine but not a GPW engine!

Re: 1943 GPW engine value??
I would guess around 3500+/- assuming everything is as stated.
I am sure some guys may feel this is high, others may feel its to low. It would be a great find for someone looking for the correct time period engine in an otherwise nice GPW. Its all subject to the buyers needs at the time.

Re: 1943 GPW engine value??
I was going to say about the same price, particularly given the fact that it has all the extras.
Quick question that has the potential to increase the value: Is the original number on the block and if so what is it? On the off chance someone has that GPW, I'm guessing they'd be very motivated to get reunite the engine with the jeep it came with from the factory. The probability of that happening is admittedly very low, but I remember a couple years ago on this forum that someone offered an engine for sale and it turned out someone had the jeep in another state. I don't know if they ever struck a deal or not.
Also, there's a 43 GPW for sale (not mine) that is missing its engine. Depending on how close the date of this engine and that vehicle are, the person who buys the GPW might be interested in your engine.
Hope this is helpful.

Re: 1943 GPW engine value??
Yes the pad is stamped with the GPW number, but right off hand cannot remember what it is?? With the oil filter on engine and the pad painted over, it is hard to tell. As soon as it warms somewhat, -13 degress last night, I will do that. Both starter and generator were rebuilt when the engine was. I know for sure the genny has the data tag on it, but starter, will have to inspect.

Hello friends,
Hard to tell but would agree with most of the comments.
I am actually looking for such an engine so am ready to make a $3,500 offer, my 1942 engine is showing weaknesses!
Would that offer suit your expectations?
All the best,
Eric

Re: 1943 GPW engine value??
I have had several emails from our overseas friends. Originally, I had all my parts sold to a fellow in The Netherlands, but the container company was so strict on how container had to be filled and secured, I cancelled the deal. (Had cash in my bank) I have more than likely in excess of $20,000 in parts, almost all originals. Sorry to say, but if you do not have a shipping address in the USA, I will not sell and ship this motor to you. This applies to the fellow above and all the other requests. Someone else can ship this overseas, not me.
I can ship this engine strapped to a pallet, at your expense, to the nearest FASTENAL store to you. You pay shipping upon engines arrival.

May I ask.....what’s the serial number on the engine? Can you check?
I have to ask....maybe it’s one of the GPW motors I’m looking for...never know!

In England that would fetch around £4000, it looks a good one.

I think I am going to pull the head, oil inside and visually inspect, install new head gasket, then fill with oil and zinc additive and start this engine. Would feel better myself if I hear it run.

Call me paranoid but I think you should circulate water through it while it is running. I used duct tape to "connect" a hose from my home water heater to my CJ engines when I tested them

I don’t think those numbers are factory stamped. Is there a set of numbers followed by an X stamped above the upper left exhaust port?
