White Body Mount Pads

Post by Frankie » Sun Jul 30, 2017 8:48 am

Looking at my GPW 22192, DoD 23 Apr 42, I see that the body mount pads that are still on the mounts appear to be a white rubber. Is that normal for the VEP? Since the pads are white, would that indicate possibly a first time body off?

Mine were showing lots of white and it turned out to be the white cords reinforcing the pad structure. They were also very pink in the areas that had been trapped between body and frame.

I'd say it's likely that it does indicate first time off the frame. Another indication is the presence of the little stamped pal nuts on the body to frame bolts.

I'm pretty sure rubber had moved away from pinks and whites to black by WWII.
