M-114 A.K.A. the "SCOUT SCOOTER". They were active from 1962 thru 1973.

CUTE LITTLE BUGGER, CHEVROLET 283 POWER.
I like Tracked Vehicles, also. My wife and son were instant expert drivers, he was 12 when he first drove it. Finding all the missing parts NOS was fun.

Hi Ben, scout sections were still using these in early 76 with the 8th ID in Germany. They were replaced for a period of time with the M113...

Did not know that, I was under the impression that General Abrahms pulled the plug on the M-114 in 1973.

I arrived in Germany December of 1975 and was stationed in Mainz with the 1st Brgde 8th ID. I remember seeing them roaring around post for at least the first 6 months I was there. Couldn't miss that rear hatch. Wish I had got a picture of them.

They were fun for everyone but the mechanic. Mine was registered and insured for road use and was a parade pleaser.

I agree they are fun. If one is fun three have to even be more fun right?

I never saw any 114's with just a 50 mount. All had 20mm mounts and a M60 off the backend.

The early ones had the .50 mount on the early cupola, and had minor cosmetic differences, many were updated to M-114A1 spec. For such a small and simple machine, they required a lot of work to keep them in fighting shape. They do make a good "poormans tank" tho. Parts are scattered and hard to come by.

Tracks are fun, too, but you gotta have a suitable work shop to take proper care of them.
