'37 Dodge Brothers staff car project FS *new offer and price

Post by SmarT » Mon Aug 06, 2012 10:06 am

I have for sale a 1937 Dodge Brothers D5 sedan that I was making into a staff car. It's one of the last years to carry the Dodge Brothers Jewish star emblem and name. I have my eye on a different sedan for my staff car so this one needs to go. Here's the work I have done:

-Got gauges working correctly
-New radiator, gas tank, NDT tires, fan belt, wipers, headlights (halogen), and coolant hoses
-Went through all doors and got handles working properly and windows and locks working
-Installed an original driver side lock to match the one on the passenger side. Original ignition key and original locks with original DPCD marked keys. I only have one ignition key, but two keys per door lock.
-Did tune-up on engine (plugs, wires, oil, points, etc./a Napa parts list can be included if desired)
-Sanded ALL chrome (I can give you a can of paint adhesion for painting the chrome if desired)
-Cleaned out cooling system
-Got horn working
-Redid most of the dashboard wiring
-Rebuilt heater
-Packed bearings, checked and adjusted brakes
-Greased all points, topped tranny and axle.
-Coated running boards with a non-slip, paint-able coating
-Rebuilt carb and cleaned oil bath air cleaner
-Redid light switch and choke and throttle cables
-Put artillery rims from a 1936 Dodge D2 on (original rims included)
-New 6v battery
-Did some rust removal on inside of doors.
-Worked on window seals.
-Got windshield crank-out fixed.
-Replaced glass for license plate light with NOS one

I did a basic go-through on almost every bit of this car. It runs good, starts up good. I went on a 30 or so mile trip on a warm day with no problems. Kept up with traffic. I got it up to about 65 or 70. Turn signals and 4-ways work.

The body is in great shape. The rust doesn't seem to be too bad, just spots here and there. The most rust looks like on some of the rims, but I was just going to wire wheel and rust convert if I kept it. Looks like someone tried to fix and/or prevent rust at some point. They put on a really thick brown paint all over, even the undercarriage (axles, leaf springs, frame, etc.). It seems to have done the job. The original Dodge Brothers emblems are present.

Windshield is cracked and so is one of the rear windows but they are still solid. No clouding. Cowl vent works and so does windshield crank-out. The interior was in really bad shape when I got it and not to mention incorrect (looks like some previous owner gutted it and tried to do by hand) so I removed it and cleaned it out the best I could. The bows are still present for the headliner. The seats are in really great shape. Inside is painted black.

I started sanding the body down to prep for paint. All it really needs to get it to being a basic staff car is finishing prepping the body and rims and then paint o.d.. I have two gallons of TM9 shade 8 o.d. and the proper thinner to go along with the car if desired. I will include the stencils for the hood numbers as well.

It's sold as-is and where is. Some extra parts are included such as an original radio, extra dash, extra hub caps, etc. Comes with a spare tire that is new as well with a matching artillery rim. Come take a look and test drive it. Has great potential. Would be good for re-enacting or even just driving around. Has a clear title in my name and I will include a bill of sale as well. Asking $6,000 or best. After you commit to buying I will need the payment within a week. It can stay here for a month or two, though, if you need time to arrange pick-up. I tried to describe it as well as I could but any questions just shoot me a pm. Thanks for looking.

I forgot to mention, I was making this into a driver worthy vehicle. I drive my ww2 jeep most every day and I was going to use this as a trade off from time to time for long trips and such that's why I did a quick go-through of as much as I could.

Also forgot to mention that I hooked up the defroster. This was the first year with built in defroster vents in the dash. When I rebuilt the heater I hooked it up to the vents.

I have a new offer to propose to hopefully speed this along. If someone buys the sedan for $6500 I will cover ALL shipping charges and will take care of all the set-up for getting the right company and getting it over to you ASAP in an enclosed trailer. The vehicle MUST be paid in full and your address given to me before I can move on anything, though. But, again all you have to do is pay and I will take care of the rest and should be able to get it to you within a week or two. If interested shoot me a pm let me know. I will only offer this for the price stated. I have only posted this offer on here so far, not on my ebay auction or craigslist posting. Thank you
