MB 369488

Post by Michael O. » Fri Dec 22, 2017 10:25 am

This was the second MB I brought home this year. The tub is in really good condition and shouldn’t take too much to properly restore it. The transmission is date stamped J1 44D and the bell housing has a casting date of 9-6. I suspect these could be original to this vehicle? The glove box plates are missing but I estimate her DoD to be 9-11-44....any thoughts? I don’t know the transmission or transfer case casting dates as the running gear is still installed. The transfer case does have the earlier external parking brake....so I’m hopeful.

Here’s a few photos of this MB. Overall, it’s in really nice condition, except for the fuel tank well. Missing some bits and pieces but I saved it from being parted out further. The two other MB’s the previous owner also had weren’t in as nice condition....they were shipped to a buyer in Germany. This one would have gone also if I didn’t buy it, so I’m glad I did. Data tags are missing, unfortunitely. I’ll be searching for a very late August ‘44 or very early Sept ‘44 cast MB block (around MB 467XXX) for this also.

That tub is in great shape!
Yes it is Farrell, thankfully....another reason why I couldn't pass it up. She she be a relatively easier restoration once I start it.

Probably 2 - 3 days. Does yours have an original dash tag?

MB 369488 does not have its data tags...just the frame tag. I think with the help from the members here, I should be able to narrow a DoD to within a few days. I’m also hoping I can get a good close estimate on the registration number.

Hello all,
2-3 days - And look where the jeeps have ended up.
No mine didn't have the data tags, but has the original Willys Scout car frame tag.
Axle dates - Where are the axles stamped please ?

Thanks all,
Kings

Farrell, I haven’t messed with her too much but as soon as the weather warms up a bit I’ll crawl under her and get the axle dates. What’s the spread for MB’s? Delivered 3 days or so after the date on the axles or maybe longer?

Kings...if you're looking for the axle dates they can be found on this location. This is one of the axles from my other '44 MB. Both are dated 10-9-44. Also, the differential ring gears inside were dated 9-23-44.
