Looking good. It must be great to be nearly there...just need those wheels to finish it off!
Good work, hopefully I see the finished vehicle at some point soon in the flesh.

Thanks Charlie, you are more than welcome to pop by The jeep and I shall be going to the Goodwood revival in September for it's debut but it's going there to work and not just display however!
I took the canvas down today and instantly scratched the side of the tub up so I imagine I'll be going for a used look with the jeep!

Re: 45 GPW268333
Hi Toby,
For the revival I just emailed the revival main address and they forwarded it to the correct people. They wanted to know about me and my jeep and that was it, you need an MOT and ideally to be available from Thursday onwards. I'll let you know how I get on with it. Done 370 miles on jeep now so hopefully all kinks will be ironed out. Very glad I didn't go straight from rebuild to relying on it due to the little creases the have to be ironed out after an amateur rebuild like this. The major thing I've discovered if there's anything you're not totally happy with and you think it will be ok the reality is it won't a few miles down the line, take my starter brushes for example or my slightly loose prop shaft bearings which started spinning, do it all 100% first time round!

Re: 45 GPW268333
Thanks to the forum I was able to locate someone who produced the correct stencils for etching the windscreen (thanks Marc Belanger!).
I used Farrel Fox's good thread to give me some pointers on how to etch the glass and used armour etch which I found to work perfectly. Unlike Farrel I put the liquid on for 2 minutes (says to do for 1 minute on the instructions) and I also did not put on a thin layer like he suggests but liberally doused it to make sure that all areas were covered with a thick, even, coating so that they would etch with no patchiness, this seemed to work. Unless the Armour etch that I used to his is different I think theres a bit of misunderstanding on his thread about the requirement for the armour etch to 'dry', it doesn't need to dry as it is just an etching liquid and the etched glass can't be smeared either when removing the stencil as all you are doing is removing the liquid to stop the etching progress, that is not to say you cannot accidentally rub the armour etch onto the glass you don't want to be etched when removing it so be careful and have lots of water on hand to douse it!
Backside of stencil during etching process to make sure that none has bled through the tape and is etching where it should not be (would be a disaster)
Front side of stencil showing the liberal application of armour etch to make sure that an even etching is achieved
Finished product with the glass dirty on the other side (etching side has to be totally clean)

Wheel and rear seat day! Very pleased with all these bits and these firestone tyres are great looking, may not be able to fit tyres for a while as I need to spray the rims and the weather is bad for the next few days. Not sure where the Ford repro seat comes from but it looks very nice too, overall very pleased!

When I mount a spare onto the rear tire bracket, I place it so the valve stem is up at the 12 o'clock position so no water is allowed to seep into the combat rim around the valve stem when it rains or when washing the jeep...also one less thing to snag you on when walking around the rear of the jeep in tight quarters.

Re: 45 GPW268333
Guys, I had this crazy dream last night that it was 1945 again. For some reason I was at an end of war surplus auction and there were lines and lines of brand new GPW's lined up as far as you could see, they were all missing their spare tyres and pioneer tools but otherwise totally complete with just a few miles on the clock. They were all unmarked except their serial numbers on the hoods and the greasy hand prints from the factory workers . I walked down the rows of GPW's and picked one out paid a few hundred dollars for it and drove it home, it smelt of grease and canvas and all you could hear when you drove it was the gentle hum of the bar grips on the asphalt and the thumbscrew chains gently swishing in the wind.....
3 years later, a couple of thousands of hours of work and a lot of money later and 268333 is mostly complete again just (nearly) like she was in 1945, ready to fight a war she was built too late for, I hope that she will still be here long after i'm gone!

Of course thanks to everyone one G503 who has helped me with this rebuild, I have spent countless hours on here learning from others and it is safe to say that rebuilding this jeep would have been impossible for me without the G, when I first came on the site I didn't even know what a GPW was so if it wasn't for everybody here 268333 would still be just another worn out old jeep, cheers!

Hey Matt
Maybe you were eating a lot of cheese they say that gives you crazy dreams !!! Don't forget Matt when the 45's were being produced they were heading for Japan. So maybe next picture should have some bamboo in the background.
regards Nick
ps looking good. bring her up to the Victory show. And we'll have a few beers

Hi Matt,
Great work, as you know I have been following this with interest for when 266565 inevitably needs to be restored. I'm sure I will be using your build as a reference for a long time to come.
It must have been a great feeling tightening up that last wheel nut and then standing back to admire your work!
Hope to come and have a nose at somepoint soon.
Charlie

Re: 45 GPW268333
Thats a good point Nick! Sadly wont be able to make it to any shows other than Goodwood this year, need to buy a trailer and a vehicle to tow it with if I want to attend anything other than local, next project!
Thanks Charlie too, it was a good feeling but at the same time I had spent twenty minutes trying to fit a right hand nut onto a left hand thread because my sealed repro left hand wheel nut set had two right hand nuts in it so I was pretty grumpy at the time! The project will never be finished really anyway as theres always something to do, I have decided that I want to do another 45 GPW though so i'll just be moving on to the next project!
cheers
Matt

A beautiful jeep Matt, i think all our jeeps will still be around after weve gone. The thing with mine is none of my kids would appreciate it like i did, so sadly it wont stay in the family. I dont plan to go just yet though.

Hi Guys,
Had some fun today driving the jeep around the countryside, found a quarry and a friendly owner and went for a bit of 4WD action, lovely working the jeep a bit!

Hey Matt
Looking good mate. Interesting to see you've not mounted a spare wheel or gas can
