WILLYS MB 1944 355901

Post by stevewillys » Tue Mar 08, 2011 1:07 pm

Hi all, this is my project i recently bought in England, body number 95098 an engine was supplied with the vehicle but is not the original. Engine number is 422644. Gearbox and transfer box is missing and well as many other parts!!!! But vehicle is very original and never restored. Believed to have stood for many years in California. It is olive drab under the grey, under the front bumper is written WMRS which was a naval research base. Any comments, help with history etc gratefully received. Rebuild commencing.....! Looks like a decent project. Do you have the frame tag number?
Judging by the stamped brake and clutch pedals and two stud spare tire mount & support and toggle light switch it was built sometime after June 1944.
I just noticed the tire bracket extentions/spacers. I have only seen those in the manuals.

I think you'll find that the data plate (tire pressure) between the first aid bracket holes, those spare tire extension and lower spare tire foot are part of the cross country kit which would likely include a t1 compressor and 7.50x16 tires. I have the same on my 45 MB. :D

Page 230 of the ORD9 SNL G-503 shows the spacers for the larger tires. The spare tire foot/support is standard.

Dave...I don't know if Robert de Ruyter is reproducing the Cross Country tag or not, but be aware that there are others who currently are selling repop data plates that are not correct....so ordering one from one of those sources might not be a good thing unless you have an original for comparison....nothing like putting on a data plate and having somone tell you that it is a bad copy and be able to point out the mistakes...

With white wheels, some windshields also have been seen in white too.
