Hi Jim,
You need to post or email to me a photo of the complete frame serial number stamping as that should ID the assembly plant than the Reg. #s used at that plant can be used to make an estimate.

Hi everyone,
We have just bought a G.P.W (we been told it is a 43) frame number 96952 not original engine (she was in the British army for a while) engine number 156345.
We are new to this but have tried to research her, so any information you guy's may have would be welcome.
Regards
Tony

Hi guys,
I am new to the G503. Hello.
I own a VEP Ford script jeep, chassis and body number matches and this is 7928. Engine was gone.... Chassis is Willys and body plus all the rest is Ford as far as I can see. I am trying to restore this jeep as original as possible..... Can one of you guys advise me on the following questions:
* The hood is missing, so I do not know the hood number. What number could it be?
* The engine is also missing. Some guys say that in these very early production jeeps, Willys blocks were used. Is this correct as I do not know it...
* Where was this jeep manufactured and on which date? I think it was somewhere in March 1942...
Thanks,
Rudi

Welcome!
The "hood" number was also stenciled on the rear of the body on the early jeeps. Look above the Ford script

Your Chassis is "LIKE" the Willys chassis that Willys used. Midland Mfg. made the frames (chassis) for Willys throughout the Willys MB production. In the early months of GPW production Ford bought about 8000 frames from Midland for GPW's. After about late March 1942 all GPW frames were made by Murray and referred to as Ford frames. Both frames were used on GPW's during about the last half of March 1942. With that said if your frame is stamped with a proper GPW number it is likley a Willys style frame that was bought from Midland by Ford for GPW production.

Willys engine blocks were cast by the Wilson Foundry. (Wilson was a subsidiary of Willys.) Ford bought a large number of bare cast blocks from Wilson to supplement their engine needs. A large number of VEP GPW's used the Wilson block as well as the GPW Ford block. Your GPW could have used a GPW or Wilson block as they were both used in that time frame.

If you can post a picture of your frame serial number stamping, someone here on the G might help you with your other information that you requested.
As a note you said that your chassis and body number matches as in 7928. Where did you get the body number. Do you have the data plate that is on the glove box lid?
All most all of this Information comes from the research of Tom.

Thanks a lot guys for the information. I really appreciate it a lot!
Unfortunately our GPW has been sandblasted a long time ago so the numbers are gone. The chassis number is the same as on the brass data plate which is mounted onto the glove box cover. I will make some pictures and I will post them one of these days.
I understand that I can use both an MB and, or a GPW block in my jeep.
Thanks a lot and I will keep you posted.
Take care,
Rudi

Regarding my new acquisition w/o data tags here is the data from Tom
From my GPW studies and database, Your GPW 3742 should have come from the Dallas, Tx. assembly plant. The most likely DoD looks to be in the range of March 9 to 11, '42. The Registration Numbers used on those days should have been in the range of 2065336 to 2065677

I did not know the GPW stamps were found without the two headed arrow between GPW and the Serial Number. Interesting data point. Thanks for posting. Someone with far more experience in this will comment as I am just learning .
