Post by 1942ford » Tue Sep 30, 2014 12:34 am

Hi guys,

Can anyone do me a favour please and post a photo, clearly showing the correct transmission skid-plate for a (late) June '42 built GPW - Thanks! :-)

Regards - Guy.

Thanks for the link - its much appreciated...
Unfortunately, their ALL Willys skid-plates (except for one late-model GPW)...and I really need to see a photo of an early-style GPW plate - Sorry! :-)

Kind Regards - Guy.

Hi Guy,

The no. 9 skid plate in the above link is the correct type 1 GPW skid plate that you seek for your '42 GPW.

To determine if you need the very first skid plate or the #9 as shown in the link is determined by the appearance of the threaded hole for the "ear" on the frame. The would not have provided the threaded hole unless the skid plate for it was available...Check the frame for that threaded hole....I believe even the First Contract GPWs at some point had the one seen in #9 link. The wild card in this is who made the frame!

Jeep not at home for me to check but my VEP has the threaded chassis hole. it's a midland chassis so suggests that by mid March 42, skid plate 9 in the link was an option and that is what is fitted to my jeep.
