USMC radio jeep 3878 project I have been working on

Post by tractor12 » Wed May 09, 2018 10:18 pm

For the past 7 years yes 7 years I have owned NOM 12 3878. It started as a tub I had bought from Frank Steele in Oregon. Found another radio jeep 2 years ago which was a mz2 for the frame, windshield, and a few other parts. Just acquired a July 43 engine for its power plant so you can see it’s moving along slowly .
As for the radio gear end.I have acquired most of the radio parts for this jeep including the generator well several over the years. A nice set of TCS 12 radios I had boughten from Robin right after buying the tub. The hard part has been finding all the boxes. About 4 years ago I had bought Peter Frazier’s last set of battery boxes he had made. I now have acquired all his dies for making the boxes which I should be able to help others needing them. However the hardest to get boxes have been the rear boxes. In September I picked up 2 sets of reproduction boxes and have gone into taking the measurements and putting them in to a cnc program tonight. I plan to make more boxes really soon for those who have been looking like I had been.

I want to thank Frank, Robin, Loren Jones, Mark T, Jon Rogers, Zephyr, Lloyd White, Peter Frazier, Peter Ferris, Cor and a few more that have helped along the way.
Trying to figure out how to post pictures

I remember taking a similar photo back in the spring of 2005.

Hi,
Are you making some available to others in the future?
Thanks,

Yes I bought the dies that were made to make the battery boxes so I can start producing them. Also the rear boxes I have been buying more tools to produce them also. I will be putting a phone number or email with prices very soon. After this set gets made.
