Gentlemen, in April,1988 I purchased GPW196862. It had all the factory installed features of a Willys MZ radio jeep. It had no rear seat or seat brackets, it had no left side body handle, it had the factory reinforcement for the L.H. antenna bracket, it had the PTO and floor flange for the between-the-seats generator, it had the hole in the glove box floor, and holes for radio cabinets on the rear wheel housings. It did not have a cowl mounted battery, it was not (factory) converted to 12-volts.

I sold the GPW and do not know where it is today.

Hi Richard,
By any chance would you have any picture? Did it have
removeable glove box door like Mz or hinge style? Any other
Data plates on dash or similar holes to MZ?

Over years gpw radio jeeps have been discussed lots of time,
I am glad we have lots new details now.
Thank you

To all,

It appears by reading this thread, to do one of the few convererted USMC GPW radio jeep, it should be a 1942 or am I reading this incorrectly ?

My 196862 would have been April of 1944. The USMC had a habit of removing the original serial number plate and replacing them with one of their own and not transferring the S/N and DOD to the new plate............ -RG

I found a gpw with a floor mount generator, battery boxes, radio cabinet, dynamotor holes a few weeks back. No antenna box hole or speaker hole.

Must be GPW with intalled kit not a factory Gpw radio jeep.
Most of the time one can tell from the hole under the generator
Hump mount. It's cut with torch and big.

Gpw radio jeep in picture is of late 42 and the 1st Known Mb NOM12 is of May 43,then Fred Codwell's statement is very well justifiable:
"But I'll speculate a possible reason that photo was found by Jeudy and Tararine in Willys-Overland's files is that the Marine Corps might have given it to Willys when it asked Willys "We need more radio jeeps like this; can you build them for us?"

As already discussed before the difference between willys Radio jeeps and Gpw radio jeep can rather be seen as minor
Improvement in Ford designs by Willys later on.
Thanks
