History of the F-86 Sabre
The jet was rushed into operation during the Korean War to counter the surprising performance of the Soviet-built MiG-15. Built by North American Aviation, the F-86 successfully countered the North Korean air threat.

The F-86H, serial number 53-1250, was donated to the City of Lakeville and was one of the last of these planes to be built. The H-model did not see duty in Korea and only 475 were built, making the airplane rare. It is slightly larger than the previous models with a wingspan of 39 feet, a length of 38 feet 8 inches, and a tail height of 15 feet.

This model also features an engine that was more powerful than previous models (a J73-GE-3E engine with 8,920 pounds of static thrust) and was designed to carry both external fuel tanks, as shown in this aircraft, or bombs. It also had four 20 millimeter guns instead of the six .50 caliber guns on previous models. The maximum takeoff weight of the F-86H is 21,852 pounds, about 25% more than older models.

The H-model has a cruise speed of 603 mph, a maximum speed at sea level of 692 mph, an initial climb rate of 12,900 feet per minute, and a service ceiling of 49,000 feet above sea level.

This particular model flew with both active duty Air Force squadrons and then National Guard units before being acquired by a civilian owner. It was eventually purchased by Bill Studer who donated it to the City of Lakeville to be part of this Veterans Memorial.

the red rotating radar, take a left and go towards where
the navy was, there was a old F-86? on display
just basically sitting in a parking lot, any body
could climb on it,

Great site. How do you add to the site. We have a F-86 here at the Robins Air Force Base Museum. I have a few more pics of the one in Macon also
