I think picture two is a modern pic made to look old, saw a reference to it on another forum.
I found another reference to the image posted on a French reenactor site with a description of the vehicle and a few images that are captioned "Photos d'époque" which means photos of the era. I studied the details of the image before and think it is period. Note the heavy wood vehicle obstacle with barbed wire, tape in X fashion on the windows to reduce damage from glass, the heavy home made wooden ladder where theya re putting up the British flag.

But then again, I can;t determine if the clothes on the folks in the back ground look period and the soldier in the front does not appear to have a weapon.

I saw a newsreel of Eisenhower getting into a scout car in N. Africa for a trip to a conference or possible visit to the front lines. You can tell it has been raining everyone has raincoats on. It might be in a 'Victory at Sea' episode.

If that's tape it's a pretty neatly positioned.

Good point, might be leaded glass then with triangle sections.

Look up “White Scout Car” at library of congress images. Lots of wwii images there, including a sign painter painting the registration number at the factory.

Thanks for taking an interest in the thread. Almost all but the first few images are of the white (halftrack) scout cars. I'll scout again using different searches, but a majority are from the 1941 SC pics. There were several pages, so I'll did through them slowly to see if a few nice unseen shots emerge and then post them here. Thanks again

Anybody have a scout car with the pulpit? Would be interested to see how it mounted, and if skate rail was left on, got some unknown holes in the windshield frame and floor on mine. Would like to see the mounting to see if it might explain the holes on mine. Looks like it mounted above everything, what do you think.

Would it have mounted the same as a HT M2A1? At least on the front windshield frame.

I guess this may need to be a new thread, but I am wondering (from looking at the pictures) if they took the skate rail off and used something like the perimeter rail that was used on the M2A1 halftracks, would this not give an option to those who have a scout car but cannot find a skate rail? Could get more of these MV's back on the road.

A new thread would keep this on topic, I would think the skate rail with all the brackets helps with the structural rigidity fo the upper armor. Not sure if it would be a sturdy if you took the skate rail off. Not sure if that is an issue or not. I'm just beginning to learn about the SC. In any case a recreation of one of those images would look terrific.

The SC with the 705th TD Bn bumper markings is a re-enactment photo that was turned into a B & W shot to make it look period. I researched that photo quite a bit, hoping I could mark mine for an ETO unit using the SC in front line combat. Alas, it was not to be. I contacted the last remaining folks from the 705th, and none recalled our vehicles in use after they shipped out for Europe. Now the sample was not large, but none of the folks who could respond recalled them in use with the 705th after they got to the ETO. After that, I came across the photo, both in color and in B & W, in an article describing how both photos came from the same parade. I’m not sure what search term(s) I used to get the article to come up, but I think it had something to do with the names of the shops in the background. Again, I’m not sure what I did, but it was clear that the photo was not a legitimate war time photo. I was disappointed, but them’s the facts!

I wanted to believe so much that this was an original image. Clint had it right to begin with. I suspect if there was a single SC in the ETO operated by the 705th TD, every SC restored would have been so tagged. Sounds like you put a lot of research into deciding your SC fate.

I appreciate everyone's input, even though what i want to be true is not in fact true. I think aside from the occasional SC in the ETO, it would always be best to portray Operation Torch or Husky. This thread is helping me to decide which way to go should I ever get that far.

Thanks Clint, and thanks Don...you are really helping me decide which way to go with my project.

Allthough not an ETO image, this Early SC is reported to be from the 3rd ID. It bears an early Reg No of W-60198?. I'm not sure what the last digit is, but I think this is a Lot 2 car. Note the rims and chevron pattern tires and no water can bracket on the passenger side.
