Had a bit of spare time today to fiddle with the combat rims. Have read a few threads about this process on the G. Those frackin run-flat tires are mucho heavy  My plan is to get the old rubber off and split the rims and arrest a bit of corrosion. Also makes for a lighter load to TN. If I cannot get the rims to split, after removing the rim bolts, I will take them to a shop that specializes in this sort of thing. Will post progress, here is where I am so far

Hi Oz,

I mucked around for a couple of hours with the old run flat tyres on my M8 combat rims. Most of the bolts were seized and the rims and tyres felt like they weighed a ton each. In the end, I took them all to a truck tyre specialist. They removed all 6 run-flats for $100. That was the best $100 I had spent....

That is looking more and more the path with each hour of work. Saving on having to go to the gym for exercise. I'm getting real good cutting through rubber with a hand saw. Most of my good tools are packed for the move and I am bored waiting. :?

Here is another cool part, NOS, out of the box,

Switch, toggle, double pole, fuel gauge, CH-8100 Part No. A167674
The CH stands for the Cutler Hammer Company which manufactured the switch. The metal plate and surround is devoid of any markings or indications to what this is. I've noticed several vintage WW2 aircraft switches that closely match this one, and some are momentary on, some permanent on, with and without stamps, for different functions within the aircraft. I have yet to find one that looks exactly the same as this one.

As with your WC-12 thread, I'm excited to follow this one as well. Great find, Oz!

Thank you kindly, Sean. It will be more than a year before I get to work on it. I am hoping to get it moved to TN as the new homestead begins hopefully by end of summer, early fall. I'll post some very detailed shots of it when I get to that point, nd hopefully can begin pulling a few things off and assessing condition at that point.

Just working on the cab of the wc right now, so not much to post until that is ready to mount, so to speak.

I can honestly (and proudly) admit that my mornings consist of coffee, reading the news, and reading g503. The best part of the 'G' are the restoration threads, though, and honestly it's kind of depressing when someone finishes a project and thus slows down or stops posting about it! That said, even if it'll be awhile until you get to your scout car, it's exciting to having another thread to look forward. Yours and Zeph's threads are some of the most detailed and entertaining ones to read. They also keep me dreaming about the next OD project I might end up with, too! Keep up the good work, Oz. And good luck with your move east! 8)

It is the support and comment by members like you that makes the effort to document the efforts of restoration much more enjoyable. I also find that taking all of the pics and posting them here help me to be more organized in my work. I also have a source of images to refer back to when I can't remember how something goes back together. I can't tell you the number of times I go to Zeph's threads to figure something out.

As is for you, coffee and the G are morning rituals for me. That would make a good TV show..."Coffee and the Gee" If we could get the History Channel to work a series over two years, once a week, on an MV restoration. Mike and Frank do a Scout Car sort of thing.

Parts Arrival Day #3

Just purchased a few items from JR Parts. Everything arrived as advertised. I am curious about the rubber shock mounts, given that they are very old. I know rubber tends to become rigid after years, but these are coated. They were only $2.00 each, so worth the gamble. If anyone has experience with them, or found a suitable replacement I'll post that on the cross over table thread that i started.
