I sent a pm not sure if you got it. Is the transmission in it? or oil coolers also what is the track width? I think some of the track stuff is the same as a m47 I know the transmission is the same We are restoring one and need some pieces. If its priced right, it could work out I take what I need and resell or give it to some one who needs it to help restore one. Ive got my own truck so hauling isn't a problem If the museum has any extra m47 parts id be interested in those. If someone buys this to restore I have a complete running av1790 7b engine which is correct for it. Anyway answer my pm I sent you it has my phone # so we can talk thanks Murphy

Ok so after talking to many interested parties and doing some research of my own I think I can safely say I am looking for 18k for the hull. If this is agreeable to anyone please let me know but I will not let it go for less, I will let it sit another 10 years if I have to and make it a M103 planter..lol

I'm now confused... torch or sit for another ten years? First was going to be torched if someone did not jump all over it, now it's going to sit for another 10 years if no one jumps on it. Personally, I like the 2nd option for it more, hope that is the one that you decide on if no one jumps on it.

I remember a old dealer
He wouldn't accept 25.00 per NOS crankshaft
There were around 100 of them
BUT
HE PAID HIS WORKERS TO BREAK THE WOOD CRATES DOWN AND SCRAPED THEM WHEN STEEL WAS AROUND 35.00 per ton
Lol

Recently, the idio... I ment guy who was running Tommilin's (spelling) estate who would not sell a 105mm recoilless for less than a few grand but would scrap them out for a few bucks if no one bought. Wouldn't even take offers of 100x scrap value of one he was about to take to the scrapper. WTF>...

Well, to answer your question I spoke too soon about the scrapper, it seems 200 a ton is a bit low and if I can't get what I think is a fair price then I decided I would just hold on to it, it's not costing me anything to keep it, I would just really like to see it gone.

This has nothing to do with the gentleman's listing. just a reply to a post in this thread about an old dealer.
I never understood the mentality of
" If I can't get my price. I'll scrap it for pennies"

Seems pretty childish to me.
There was the remains of a M3 half track for sale on craigs list in Maryland. Very bad, no engine or tranny. no rear armour. looked like screen doors on the side :D , bad tracks. no roller, gauges broke. you get the idea
Seller wanted $4200 or he was going to scrap it. at $200 a ton he would be lucky to bet between 800 and a 1000 for it.
I didn't make on offer, there wasn't enough left to make it worth while for me to go and get it. But I had a friend who talked to the guy. He wasn't budging on $4200!! lol

There's a M103 turret on the ranges of Ft. Knox, maybe it could be salvaged?

I have seen some of the largest and most successful surplus dealers of the 40's-60's scrap, rather than give something away.

And that makes no sense.
Why scrap for a $100 when you can sell for $200??

Pride and as a matter of principle. There are some customers that can drive sellers to doing that. Seymore at Supreme Surplus was known to do it occasionally. He was a millionaire and could afford to.
