Re: WTB: rear armor pieces
Bill,
So do you own a diesel engined (BUDA-LANOVA 6DT317) Scout Car?
The designation would be M3A1E5.
I own one too. But we put a JXD engine in mine. I want to buy a diesel engine and rebuild it before switching out the gas powered engine.
I have pics of mine. Can you send some of yours?
Matt

Re: WTB: rear armor pieces
Bill,
The guy you should be talking to is Bob Gillard. He has owned and/or rebuilt over 14 Scout Cars in his life time. He remans the armor, fittings, all kinds of stuff for the Scout Car. And he's really great to deal with.
Let him know I recommended you!
Bob's number is: (541) 955-6166
Good luck!

Re: WTB: rear armor pieces
I know for sure Palidin's scout car was a Diesel model. I bought out Gary Odells collection and there was the one and only Diesel scout car that Odell said was the only known diesel socut car in the country. I am sure there could be others hid somewhere back then. I sold the diesel scout car to Bob gillard who fixed it up and sold it to Bill. I always wondered if he reproduced the second battery box version to make another diesel version or not. I always wondered if there was one or more of them. Gary

Re: WTB: rear armor pieces
I also sold a diesel scout that was stripped of most parts (except for the cab) to Bob. I think he also had found one up in Oregon, in addition to getting one from Gary Hebbing. So that makes about three of them. There most be more, as the original US TM's for the diesel engined scout car, are not that hard to find.

Re: WTB: rear armor pieces
OK. So Bob bought the cobbled up Hercules front end from gary(see pictures of it on his old sight) and sold the put together to Matt.
Kim found a stash in the desert and sold the correct original Buda diesel car to Bob who sold it whole and uncut just missing most everything to Bill(me)
Bill being the anal retentive indidual that he is(I love talking about myself in the 3rd person/I get to relive my courtroom days) has been doing hundreds of hours of research and determined that there were 107 diesels built under an experimental program for the Army. 100 were Hercules DJXD and 7 were Buda-Lanova 6DT-317. Why only 7? Well the Navy was buying them left and right to put in tenders, launches, small work barges, Admirals launches etc because they were so darn reliable and could so easily be configured to whatever application was necessary. DT,land motorized, DTG, generator set, DTM, marine application and I understand there's more but i haven't found them yet.Army grabbed some and put them in gensets(M7).
All diesel scouts except one were shipped to Russia under Lend Lease. The Army just couldn't wrap their heads around the concept of diesel for non tracked armored vehicles.
Note of interest. I am currently communication with a gentleman in Italy who has an original diesel Scout Car. We're swapping pictures and frame numbers and parts sources etc. I don't have the recovery story yet but I'm sure he didn't find it in Italia. I've seen the engine pics and can verify that he does in fact have the diesel version.
That makes 2 known. Buda tag is clear as a bell.

So Bill, did you ever find that DJXD or Buda-Lanova 6DT-317 for your diesel scout?
Could you share the photos of the one you found in Italy?
Much thanks!

Re: WTB: rear armor pieces
Is me, that I've found some years ago a Buda Lanova Diesel for Bill, but the purchasing price was too high, after this I lost all contacts with Bill.
Maybe I have still the pictures of this motor.....
