There are quite a few out in this area. I’m in Boise and own ten scout cars. Friend owns 5 and the guy that had the diesel still has a couple. Wish I could find the history on them

Just a guess but they probably all or most came from surplus sales at Tooele Ord. Depot.

Wow "Warbirdrestorer" you have your own private army. That's amazing. Out of interest how many are going, and also do you know how many of Fred's are goers?
I have 1 restored SC and another partly restored.
Photos are always welcome but the perennial problem here seems to be posting them.

Philip

Hey Gents,
Here is a pic of our unrestored M3A1, S/N 257973, the way the vehicle came to us. I was not able to upload pictures before, when I initially posted, for some weird reason.
Thanks Gents!

Hi Tom, A few months back I bought a SC that is already on your list, VIN 269311, but the ORD # was not included, so here it is 17767. Now with these 2 numbers, is it possible to get a close hood # ? I would like to put a number on the hood. Thanks, Rob PS the listing is near the bottom of you list.

Hi Rob,

Your Scout Car was made on Production Order T-3338 for 10,000 units. This was by far the largest M3A1 Production Order, and we have collected enough examples with known good Serial & Registration numbers together to say with near certainty that from Ordnance Serial Numbers 9377 thru 19376, the Key Number is 6073263. Add that to your Ordnance Serial Number (17767 + 6073263) & you get USA 6091030, the Registration Number that would have been assigned. I see that you have that listed as a "42 Scout Car," but of the 10,000 units produced on this P.O., 9492 were manufactured in 1943. If we had the monthly acceptance figures by Production Order, we could determine the exact month that SN 17767 was accepted. An educated guess would be September, 1943.

HTH,

Joe

My eyes are failing me. I tried counted how many SC are in the USA but gave up. An estimate on how many are in the USA? Thanks, Rob

Best of luck with the restoration.
I'm pretty sure the corresponding USA Number for Ord Serial Number 1856 would be 603180.

hello,

I am looking for the actual owner of White Scout Car with serial number 265835.
This vehicle would have come back from Greece to Belgium and later been sold in France.

A few years ago I found an original data plate with this serial number while looking for Willys MB parts.

Hello Everyone, I recently purchased an M3A1 Scout Car Serial # 265941. It is now in Ohio awaiting restoration. Two big pieces I am looking for are a complete front roller assembly and any parts or pieces for a late bolted skate rail!
Thanks!
Mike
