Found a Unimog

Post by Jeeps4Brains » Sun May 25, 2008 6:46 pm

Hey Guys,

I am normally a Jeep guy but then I found an M37 so I can’t say that anymore.

Then the other day I spotted a Unimog 404.1.

The guy says it is a 1973 with 8,500 miles. He is asking $9,500 for it.

Is that a good deal? What can you tell me about this truck.

That Unimog is not one of the Swiss imports as it has the "roadster" style cab top and drop side bed. That particular 'mog may be French, Belgian or German. The 404.1 series trucks were powered by the MB M180 6 cylinder car engine (liquid cooled) which parts for, are not hard to get. They have a unique combination transmission/transfer case that helps to give them outstanding off road performance (the portal axles help too :) ) The "NATO" pattern trucks usually have a fuse block and fuel guage unlike the Swiss trucks that used circuit breakers and tank dip stick. That Unimog appears to be in good shape (how does it run?) so I'd say that $9500 is a fair price for it. If you are seriously considering it there is an exl. pre purchase check list available on the Rocky mountain moggers website (www.rockymountainmoggers.com ) that you may want to check out.
Good Luck!

Do you mean late 1990's (for example 1997/1998)or late "1990"? If you mean late 1990 that was 20 years ago so I'd say prices for them would have been cheaper then what they are bringing today. In fact, even if you meant "late 1990's" prices for 'mogs were still cheaper then what they are going for today, 10-12 years later.

Just did the conversion of Euros to US dollars and yes roughly $4200.00 is a great price for a 'Mog Unfortunately, we, across the pond also have to figure in shipping & customs and then the price goes a good bit higher. Man, if only someone would invent one of those "startrek" tela-porter thingys we'd be all set :) .
