Ford GPW F script valves and pistons

Post by wynnski » Fri Mar 16, 2018 12:09 pm

Does anyone have any F script valves and pistons? Do these things still exist?
I would like to build my engine up with as many F script parts as possible. I know it is a tall order but I thought I would ask.

There should be F marked valves out there for sure.

F marked pistons are probably not going to be found except for in Standard bore size.

Given the improvements in metallurgy in the last 78 years or so, some original items are better left for display than for usage. Pistons and rings being among them. Valves certainly should be replaced and stellite inserts in the block used but modern valves would probably be a better option there as well. There is a limit to the search for ORIGINAL PARTS when the modern ones are better....conversely, many things are better if they can be restored or found as NOS compared to some of the repop stuff on the market today.

Those who collect NOS and NOS boxed G503 parts pay a premium to get pristine "wall-hangers" for the man cave or shop so even trying to find them to use on a jeep can get really expensive when the modern replacement part may be a better choice.

Hello Chuck
Thank you for the reply.
I do realize that modern parts are much better than original items, but I thought I would ask the question. The engine is never going to get abused. I have rebuilt a lot of old wartime and pre war engines using the original pistons and valves, mainly because new items are not available and all seem to work properly (so far)
I am very grateful for all of your replies.

My engine builder likes NOS. They have to check tolerances on all new manufactured parts as many are out of spec.

Exactly...my business is restoration and I scoure the world for old stock as the new stuff is useless, or needs work, in most case.
I want to build my GPW engine with F script parts more as an excersise in self fulfilment as much as anything else. I need the valves, valve guides and a front pulley now

If you are looking for NOS F-marked tappets, Jeep Sud Est in South of France has them in stock, packed in red oiled paper.
Be aware that the one I've received were the famous rare oversized tappet's.
I told them to sort their stock.
But perhaps he has also normal size F-Marked tappets.
