Got 15" heavy wet Thursday and 3" of fluff last nite. Can't promise a Willys head, but I have some hand picked spares I put aside and will check. I aint shoveling out the barn door again this winter, waiting for nature to do it.

Joel, I was being a bit facetious about the 13' of snow...I know you got a lot the other day though. In regards to MB heads...again I'm looking for a specific date range. I have 8 or 9 other MB heads from various stages of production but none will work for this restoration.

In the mean to time....the motor for MB 379204 (MB 488057) is done and ready for me to pick up.

When did Willys begin tapping the boss at the rear of the GI Issue MB Heads that have JEEP cast in them?

have
head W1 639630C 7-14
head W2 639660C 2-5
Both have Willys and JEEP in raised casting.

So what year are they if you don't mind my asking?

Winget, the 7-14 dated head could either be either from 1944 or 1945. In early 1944 both WILLYS and JEEP were embossed on the cylinder heads. Your 2-5 dated head is likely from 1945. I believe heads that were being cast on 2-5-44 still only would have had WILLYS embossed on them.

I had a good stock of GI Issue NOS 1940's waxed/cosmolined cylinder heads, just happened to have a Willys post war engine I built up with NOS parts and installed one of the NOS Willys heads on it.It has the tapped hole.

Joel, if any are dated around 9/18 and are the late war style, please let me know. I can “fix” the heater hole tapping.

only thing I looked at was the unused spare engine (early M-38 Block) I keep as a spare for my MB. The head is NOS smooth Willys/Jeep Marked, and factory tapped for heater.. I don't think anyone will convince me to remove it. I can't read casting # or date as it is under oil filter bracket.
Will try to get to the heads I have stored, they are all perfect and will be magnafluxed and resurfaced. Cross your fingers. Big East Coast storm due Tues.

Dano, the casting number 640161 is a CJ Head. This is a very early CJ Head though...probably cast on 9-21 (1945)?

My other G-503 heads are GPW or ribbed CJ. The one NOS "WILLYS JEEP" smooth head is factory tapped for heater. The Oil filter bracket is hiding its, identity.

Joel, if you could report the casting date of the NOS MB head as well as the casting number I appreciate it. Of course, if it’s not for sale then my question is a mute point in which case never mind. In the mean time I’m holding out hope that I can still locate a late MB head cast on or about 9/27.

If I don’t locate one in the coming weeks I will simply choose one MB head from my own stash.

The NOS smooth WILLYS JEEP Head is on my unused spare engine and the part numbers is hidden by the Oil Filter Bracket. Sorry.
