Need photos of early MB front frame horns

Post by Michael O. » Sat Apr 07, 2018 5:29 pm

Does anyone have some photos of their Slat MB’s front frame horns? Maybe some without the upper bumper gussets? I want to see if the tips on mine were cut off when Bubba welded his own bumper to the frame.

I think I see what you're saying, the bottom of the slope doesn't meet the bottom edge at a point, it's clipped off a bit. Mine (100161) is the same way. I have some pictures for you, PM me your e-mail address if you want them. BW

Matt, thanks for those photos? Weren’t Slat MB frames squared off at the ends? Maybe I’m thinking of early GPW’s? I’m still learning about the features of early MB’s as I’m more of a GPW guy. I’m taking my Slat Grill tub and chassis into the shop in a few weeks to begin the needed repairs.

I’ve been away from home so I don’t have access to my AAW books and such....which I seem to recall may show graphic this area?

I need to retract what I said - the left one on 100161 looks like it may have been burned off by Bubba when he welded a pipe bumper on, or by myself when I cut it off. The right-hand one still comes to a point where Bubba missed a bit in the corner. It's 2-3/16 inches from the front edge of the box in the frame rail, and flush with the front edge of the gusset.
AAW Volume One appears to show them pointed on MB's and GPW's both, and doesn't say anything about early MB's being different. BW

Ok, thanks.

This photo is from an early GPW (with an early Murray frame?) so maybe that’s where I’m thinking of the squared ends?

Sent you an email with a little different view. Bumper gusset still attached but bent up giving a clear view of the angles on the horn.

Thanks everyone! It confirms that mine were modified but should be easy to replace and repair.
