Hello Ian,
I am in the UK and have a '41 built Slat, the areas you are needing are in excellent shape on my Jeep. Do you want some pictures and dimensions of my Jeep to allow you to fabricate something accurate for yours?
Just let me know, kind regards Alan [#111241]

Hi David,
Thanks for your post and yes, the DOD is 12th January 1942. However all the main components on the Jeep carry December casting dates and based upon that, i am [hopefully] correct in assuming the core car is late 41.
It would be interesting to know from the very knowledgeable forum members how long a Jeep took to manufacture and what time spread the parts fitted to it covered.
Any answers much appreciated.

It is normal for parts to spend a few weeks on the shelf before being assembled on/into a vehicle, so late Dec 41 casting dates would be correct for a jeep of the 2nd week of January. It doesn't mean the core of the vehicle is 41 though, but it does indicate those parts are very likely original to this jeep.

Our jeep is almost exactly 1000 units older (DOD Jan 8th 1942) and if I remember correctly the axles have assembly (not casting) dates of Jan 5, which would be correct.

Hello David,
Thank you for your very detailed response about your Jeep, which is very interesting. Would you have any pictures of your Jeep which i could see as am interested to compare my own against it. I have restored my Jeep but am constantly searching for detailed information to improve any areas that are not correct.
Regards Alan

Anything you need to know in particular? Our jeep isn't exactly the most original one out there, but chassis, body, fenders, hood and windshield are aal original and together since the factory.

Afternoon, I am also in the UK and have a close family friend who has an early Dec 41 Slat. His has got loads of early bits on it that would suggest its earlier than its DOD. I would assume though, that either they built it early and it failed a final check, or it was just built using older parts.

Hi
I have a late 41 dec and I'm trying to restore it as well as I can . I'm looking for good pictures and dimensions of three parts rear seat brackets and the straight piece of metal welded inside the body at the passenger side . I think I will try to make these parts instead of waiting to find good ones . Ihave restored some standard MBs but a slat is very different and restoring one is long hard job . When you are young ,Time is not a so hard ennemy!
have a nice day !!
regards
W

I have found an early gusset now, still looking for original three piece rear seat brackets as in picture.
