Need ID Help with 1941 Slat Grille Willys MB data plate

Post by goldcreek2 » Fri Jul 29, 2016 12:21 pm

I am looking for help IDing this data plate for a 1941 Willys MB.

The plate serial number says 10447 with a delivery date of 12-41.
The title read as a 1941 Willys JP with a vehicle ID number of 10447.

When I research the serial number it seems a number is missing as all the ones I have found have six numbers and are between 100001 and 108598.

Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Yup...it's missing a number. MB's started out at 100000...all 6 digits. My slat is #105557 with a DOD of 12-19-41.

The font used to stamp the numbers are different. I smell a repop dataplate.

What else can I look for to determine what Willys this is?

Look on the left frame rail at the inside front for a tag with another number and/or behind the oil filter on the engine block for a number or on the left side toe board/floor support that goes to the frame, there is another number there. If you cannot find any numbers in those places, post some photos of the JEEP itself and maybe someone can help from there.

My Slat Grill Serial Number is 104407. DOD is 18 December 1941. It is a WILLYS MB. Looks like you are missing a number.

Its the wrong style of plate for a Slat Grill anywat as they did not have "Willys" in large font at the top.

Looks like a CJ tub but really can't see in rear interior very well...but my inclination is "yes". Obviously, the engine is incorrect also.

Lots of things wrong with this "slat grill" MB.

Just plain wrong on so many levels...I didn't see one thing except the actual GRILL that whispered "slat grill" to me....the V-6 engine and the data plate from Fantasyland and gas tank filler just to name a few!

That's a right mess of a jeep right there, a disastrous CJ with a slat grill bolted on to look authentic. Trouble is it fools the newbies.
