Difference between body wiring harness M996/997 and M1035 ?

Post by AAVP7 » Tue May 01, 2018 11:17 pm

The -24P TM lists different NSNs and Part No. for the vehicle body wiring harnesses on M996/997 vehicles, and the soft-top M1035.

Do you guys know where there is a difference ?

I compared both schematics, and didn´t find any. Both have the switch for the reverse light, and the plugs for the lights themselves. All the wiring going to/from the hard tops on the M996/997 is separate, going directly from the battery into the hardtop, or from the hardtop to the heater diesel pump for example.

Any ideas ? I guess there will be a reason why the TM shows different NSNs for the harnesses.

The hardtop ambulance has reverse lights.

Yes, but the M1035 softtop ambulance has them, too. (Wondering why a softtop ambulance, which is practically a normal M998, needs those...)

After checking the schematics again, I think I found one very small difference between the two body harnesses. At the right rear composite light in an M996 or M997, there seems to be a short wire going off into the ambulance hard body. It´s very short and thus hardly noticeable in the schematic.

The wire gives voltage to a relay in the ambulance control box which then switches ground to a second relay. Complicated circuit, but basically, this little wire makes sure that the interior lighting can be switched on when the vehicle light switch is in the "Service Drive" position.

The only other differences I found are the two ground wires going to the A/C compressor and the heater fuel pump, but those seem to be single wires starting on the ground stud at the battery shunt, so they are probably not part of the body wiring harness.

Does anybody know of any other differences ?

Jumper Wires are required for the armored ambulance bodies due to them extending over the fender. Armored also have NBC setups, aux fuel filter and pumps.
