WTK - WC 1/2 ton hood number size of letters/numbers

Post by treefarmer104 » Fri Mar 02, 2018 7:24 am

I checked VPW stencils and you have a choice of 2" or 3" style lettering.
When I sanded down a couple of layers of paint on my hood, I measured the letters/numbers and got
a measurement of 3 3/4".
Which size is correct?
thanks

Did you look on the underside of your hood? The factory duplicated the USA Registration under the hood on 1/2 Ton WC's.

Only ever saw that on the VC command car and carryall Joel
I have a about 10 original hoods with numbers on them and none have the number on the under side.
AS far as the size, they were 4 inch and a very thin font
I don't know if anybody is doing the correct font for them yet

This is the original number on my WC16. I worked with Rick Larson to recreate the font and subtleties of the text. It did not match his WW2 font that most people get. I had a very clear original to go by, so that's what I did. The numbers look closer to 3-3/4" high, but I think were really 4", they kind of narrowed down, with fading around the edges. They are 5/8" thick.

David Doyle's "U.S. DODGE" Book 1 has excellent fresh factory photos of 1/2 Ton WC's with close up's of the USA Registrations. They appear to be 3" Font and solid not segmented.

They are 4 inch, but the are solid, no breaks in the letters or numbers
Your picture is interesting Tim
I never saw a 1/2 ton with that style
It sure does look factory though
Thank you for the picture!!

I have seen those photos, and more, and wrestled with this. I don't have the explanation, but it is there, clear as day. Nothing under it. Also has the star upside down. Maybe the regular guy was sick that day.

The upside down star was a Canadian thing quite often.
They didn't like putting a US star on their vehicles, and you see a few with it upside down lol
