If you want to be angry at a museum, read this story.

Yea, this was all impressively screwed up. The Brits managed to lose a spitfire in this mess as well. I don't know how this got botched so badly, from beginning to end.

Most museum run on volunteers and little money so they make do with a restoration to get it out on display.
Other museums are asking for donations and selling stuff out the back to make money for the individual
Or increase there personal stash.
I don't mind helping but I don't give valuable stuff or cash.

You guys are either missing or ignoring 1/2 the reason you don’t like museums. The viewing public!

I know of a museum who has quit buying vehicle small parts (dash knobs etc) due to souvenir snatchers. The very people who the museum is there for...take a little piece home! That same museum (in Texas) lost a Sherman road wheel (on the Sherman...on the ground) the weekend of the Mabry show. Tell me that wasn’t pilphered and now in “private hands”.

Sure, there are probably some bad museums, but any one of you complaining wouldn’t do as much to preserve history then most good museums.

Case and point: https://www.google.com/amp/s/wtop.com/p ... te-md/amp/

That is too bad about the Kittyhawk.

Before I donate items of value, I have a consult with the directors and also request a financial statement.
There are many small aviation and MV museums staffed by dreamers that think having tax exempt status will result in millionaires waiting to pee money into their coffers. It does not work that way.
