Post by Farrell Fox » Thu Jan 05, 2017 1:58 pm

Not mine, and I doubt they are NOS though they are very nice.

They have been repainted. The combat rim bolts are OD and the warning tag, which should be white, is also OD. Not saying the seller is being deceitful in any way but IMO they do not qualify as New Old Stock since they aren't like new, which would have black bolts and a white tag. They are, however, in excellent condition.

Here we have another famous quote from one of our resident California Jeep experts.
Farnell, can you quantify any of the points you make? I believe spares were handled differently than production parts
do you have any factory drawings to show us?

I think the word you were looking for was "qualify", and yes, a simple search of the G, Google search or reading of Lloyd White's books will "qualify" my statement.

uh huh thats what I thought,,,you read something in a book somewhere so now you are the "go to guy" on NOS rims...
I have Lloyds books as well,,and I read what he said,,,,again,,are you 100 percent sure that when they made spare rims for the military spares inventory
that they were fabricated, painted etc the same as a factory rim?
are all items manufactured by human beings 100% manufactured per engineering drawing requirements 100% of the time?
c'mon....

I dont have to "prove" anything,,you made a statement that was implied as a FACT

I made a statement that was asking you to prove said fact.
then I stated my OPINION. An opinion based on the FACT that I work in the manufacturing industry. So I know a little something about
how parts and vehicles that travel through the air are made.
and I am here to tell you that SPARE parts can sometimes be made to different specifications than an original part installed on an item
as well as the fact that nothing we produce is PERFECT. there are often engineering mistakes, human error resulting in a process or
end item that does not conform to the original Engineering data

So for you to state that these rims arent NOS simply based on the warning plate and bolt color reveal your true knowledge level

None of the warning tags on the two NOS Combat wheels I have had the white showing on the tags. The warning Tag on the NOS Combat Wheel outer half given to me by Sam Werner was all O.D with a Factory Tag wired to it.
From what I understand is that some warning plates did get a coat of OD over the white painted tags and the tags got lightly rubbed so that the raised letters were visible.

Not that it matters at this point, but I think these rims are unused. The lug holes, edges, are too nice to be anything but unused, whether or not they were assembled from nos components postwar is hard to say. The crisp markings are incredible and I hope someone saves these photos to jeepdraw

Well here is a question for someone to answer. Was the complete wheel even in the parts system as a complete assy. I only see the inner and outer wheel and the bolts and nuts all with a separate part number in the SNL. I am wondering if it's like Tony said that these were assy. with unused parts.
