1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers SOLD SOLD
I am selling my late father's 1942 GPW (for my mom) that he did a nice motor pool restoration on in 2003-2004'ish. Titled as 42 Ford GPW. Matching serial numbers on body, frame and engine, even has the original data plates It has been kept in a heated garage and driven lightly since then (parades, MVPA Duluth MN show, etc). This GPW starts right up, drives nicely and stops nicely. I believe he rebuilt: carb, transmission, t-case, hubs, steering, and brakes (he worked on jeeps in Korea and had a gift to make them operate correctly). This jeep was originally from Springerville, AZ and previously was on an AZ air base (AZ C.P. 2 plate found in vehicle). It has great seats canvas and top and has original half door canvas! Lots of f-marked bolts (but not all). 5 mounted combat rims with good tires and tubes hold air. No rust through and all sheet metal is original. Includes a lot of goodies for showing (too much to list) and original Ford parts still in packing as well as original F-marked bolts. Military 6 vdc setup and all gauges work. New wire harness from 2004 (wire to B.O. drive light needs repair). This GPW needs nothing except a new owner whom can enjoy it as is or do a full GPW restoration. The odometer does not work and I have not looked to see why. The original unmolested motor smokes on startup but stops when up to operating temperature.
Edit: Speedometer works. Odometer and trip does not. Spare take out in the parts pile.
Currently it is in Eaton Rapids, MI 48827. PM if interested.
Priced at US$29,000. SOLD

Re: 1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers For Sale
Nice matching numbers GPW with a very beautiful original tub! It wouldn’t take much restoration work to turn it into a show winner!
I wish you the best of luck on your sale. I’m sure your dad was very proud of this GPW.

Thanks Micheal.
You are correct. This tub, and all sheet metal are in impeccable condition. No rust through and clean solid condition. I am posting more pictures of this GPW so that it is clear how clean it is. Pardon the dust though.

Re: 1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers For Sale
Did someone mention parts?! Many NOS parts and original parts Ford parts, including more bolts. Lots of extras stuff. All parts on the concrete floor go with this GPW. Not the M1165! lol.

Re: 1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers For Sale
Is the serial number in the 32xxx range? What is the date of delivery? Is the rear panel with the Ford script?

Re: 1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers For Sale
Serial number is 82483. Made 12 of 1942 at the Richmond CA plant. Rear panel is original and not script.
I have check over the F-markings. To my knowledge the following have been replaced with non F-mark parts:
front bumper and bolts (I have a very used GP bumper that I will include)
Water pump
Battery bracket, top.
Top bow and rear brackets
Radiator,,,however it has a patch over the area where the F-mark should be. So it might be original.
This is not a complete list due to not wanting to scratch paint away on various components.
I am adding a F-marked crank pulley and F-marked transmission to the pile of parts. And another 6 volt generator and regulator. Windshield cover and an extra set of original side canvas half doors. Any other parts i find in the barn will be added.
Thanks for the interest and help via pm's. Great group here as always.
Great GPW to the right person. I can transport it also if need be.

Re: 1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers For Sale
Pictures of additional items.
New pictures of it outside and running. I put about 2 miles on it in 90+ F weather. Maintained good coolant temp and oil pressure. System charges and fuel level is reading relatively close.
The speedometer works. The odometer and trip do not. Spare take out one in the parts pile.

Re: 1942 Ford GPW w/Matching Numbers For Sale
Here it is when as found and moved to MN. Painted yellow. Under yellow is Air Force Blue over OD, according to some pictures we found when it was apart.
Also, the radiator came with the gpw. It was patched prior to my dad's ownership. There is a good chance that GPW is stamped underneath the patch.

Found the GP bumper for photo op and the towing hitch which is also included in the parts deal with the GPW.

Found more items. Now included with GPW are 5 solid disk rims, 4.5" x 16. Blasted and primered. I believe that they are for early slatties (?). I will post a picture tomorrow of the rims.

Here are pictures of the rims, 4.5" x 16", solid disk. The GPW already has combat rims and these solid rims go with the parts pile.
Canvas pieces, unknown use.
Thanks again to all those interested.
