1945 Ohm Meter

Post by zepher11 » Sat Apr 07, 2018 7:33 pm

Found this January 17, 1945 stamped Ohm Meter at a yard sale a while ago. Snagged it for $10 which I was happy with. Leather handle not in the best of shape, but it is intact which is good. Haven't had a chance to try it out...or figure out how to try it out. Evidently, based on the dial, the batteries are supposed to be disconnected when not in use. Hopefully, they were... Thought it would great as a display at a minimum:

That's nice, and the price was right. I'd be sure to keep the batteries isolated unless you are actually using it, so many things like that have been ruined by batteries eating their way out through the metal shell.

Looks like a very brief existence for the maker

Would you consider selling that?
I have the test set that it belongs to but the unit I have is non functional and since I like to repair/restore old WW II radios this would be very helpful.

Thanks Gordon. I'll need to check it out this weekend to make sure there are no batteries in there. I keep getting distracted.

You're right. Looks like they had a brief run.

Let me think about that. Not sure if it works, but seems to be in generally good shape.

Have you given any thought to selling the meter?

I think I will be holding on to it for the time being. Been using it as a prop, along with some other period tools, at different car shows along with some of the rigs.

OK. How about a trade?
I have one that the meter is missing a few internal parts and, except for the missing needle in the guage, looks complete from the outside and still displays very well.
I'd like to see if I can get yours working again.

Appreciate the offer, but I think I will hold onto it.
