41-B-1840, Kent, England on auction site

It's up for less than a day now for anyone who is local. Looks OK except for the missing tray handle.
No connection to seller, etc, etc

Hi Gordon,
Thank you for the heads up. Have been looking for one for a few years now. Unfortunately too far from me and would like one with original paint.
Still waiting/looking
Thanks .. Pete

Closer to you than me, Pete. They will allow collection by a courier, they say. I've never found a WW2 box with salvageable original paint in the UK.
I have bought them from the US with good paint, and I have found in the UK an excellent PROTO badged equivalent from about 1950, but not wartime.
Typically UK ones I strip looking for original markings, if any, then right back to bare metal then prime and paint.

I'm closest to it and it looks like a "Union type" with brackets for a flat handle. It does have a single oiler hole which is a good sign for a GMTK box. I'll bid for it if anyone wants to secure it and pay me later. I could have it couriered to my brother who lives in Sussex. I was lucky with my two UK examples as the stencils were revealed when I carefully removed the later coats of paint.

I saw this but apart from the cut off handle it also has a foot missing.

Good luck to you on getting that GMTK box.
I was able to find some 'vintage style trunk corners' online, but in a bright nickel finish. Shipping was more than I wanted to spend for only the 4 corners that I needed, so I bought a 'few' extra. Let me know if you acquire that box and need/want one of the corner feet.
Here's a pic of the 'foot'

And a pic on the corner of the box (not yet attached)

I'm happy to keep my eye open for a tray as well, but shipping from this side of the pond may be prohibitive.
