Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
I did okay today.
- The DOE wrench is a MAC D9L (3/4 x 7/8), 16" long, with classic MAC hex throat openings and the "SABINA, OHIO U.S.A." marking. If it's not wartime, it's 40's for sure. More pics later.
- The smaller tappet wrench is an unmarked (but it's a Vlchek) “90A” (7/32 x 7/16).
- The hinge handle is a MUSTANG MS 57. (I found a MUSTANG MS 58 speeder last year, so I am right on pace to complete a MUSTANG 1/2-inch drive socket set by 2032.) Probably late 40's.
- Milwaukee Tool and Forge 1/2-inch drive socket with a 13/16" service opening marked with the size and the "MTF" monograph. Probably pre-war.
- Snap-On SF-240 (3/4") 3/8-inch drive deep socket with an "E" (1944) code
- The small box with OD green wrinkle paint finish contains a complete WWII 14-piece Husky 1/2-inch drive socket set. More on that later.
- The bigger OD green box is also WWII, but a mystery box. More on that later, too.
- And even though the knife isn't military or WWII, it was made – taking a grand leprechaun-size bow in honor of St Paddy's Day – in....
.....the REPUBLIC OF IRELAND!

Here's that Husky set. The yellow residue you see on all these pieces is old dried up BLO.
- Husky H3183, female, non-reversible, 10" long ratchet, with push-through drive plug, with forged-in markings "J-S" and "11-44" date code
- Husky H2712 5" long extension

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
Here's the chest.
It measures 16" wide by 9" deep by 10" high, but weighs 21 lbs., empty, which is really heavy.
By comparison, I have a similar style and identical size chest, which held the repair toolkit for the WWII M5/M6 Director (a piece of sighting equipment for a AAA gun), and it only weighs 7 lbs. empty. The steel gauge is three times as thick and the construction is all overlapping seams with corner supports. In the comparison shots below, you'll see that the compartments in both boxes have identical layouts, but the M5/M6 has no removable top tray, and no provisions for one.
I don't know what WWII tool-set this chest held. Maybe somebody can ID it. Hoping Silly's MB is reading. He's usually very good at that.
No markings on the chest itself. Center latch lock made by Corbin, side latches made by Eagle Lock Co., in Terryville, Conn.

Mine doesn't have a flat peak, but you're right, they're awfully close, especially the tray supports, and the tray. Yours doesn't have any compartments in the bottom though. Are the dividers missing? Or does it looks as if there were no dividers? Also, are the latches marked?

Would it be worth cross-referencing your nice Husky find to your earlier Husky thread Greg?

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
Love that Husky set! Not only a nice, rust free set, but in a solid case as well! And unlike a lot of other things I see around me, I'm not a bit jealous. As over time, we all have the potential to find something like this if you have a good flea market nearby

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
I saw a similar tall hip roof box in some photos of flight line work during WW2. I think they may have been armorers. It was something on an aircraft, but I can't say it was A&P.

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
I did. Leaving no doubt on yours. But mine is not so marked, there were multiple purposes for similar and often identical boxes, and the identical compartments in mine to those in the M5/M6 Director box are making me wonder if it could be a later version. Or something completely different, perhaps SC. Since the tray is in common with your box.

Ha! Definitely would be worth it, Cliff. I forgot about that thread, and that set, which has moved on to a new home.Hartofoak wrote: ↑Sun Mar 18, 2018 4:03 amWould it be worth cross-referencing your nice Husky find to your earlier Husky thread Greg?
