Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
Greg, I love those smaller DBE's! Fit so well in the hand (I actually thought the 15 degree offset was appropriate?) I have (2) Vlchek ones, and love them.
I also find it interesting about your Crescent dykes: Around here, wartime wrenches and sockets are fairly abundant. I have yet to see a pair of those stamped US dykes, though. The only set I own are the ones I graciously received from Don

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
First of all, the little Herbie DBE I just got does not have any offsets. It has 15* angle heads. The GMTK long DBE's were specified for 15* angles (i.e., the heads are not in the same plane as the handle). The short DBE's were specified as double offsets (i.e., the heads are in the same plane as the handle, but they are offset from the handle), and that offset was identified as 45* late war.

Got it- 15 degrees appropriate for large DBE, 45 degree appropriate for shorties..

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
Not much today. Picked up an orphan tommy bar with a stop ball intact. Turns out to be 3/8" diameter, which is good. Fits the cross-bar hole in wartime Duro-Chrome, S-K, and New Britain 1/2-inch drive hinge handles. Also a medium DISSTON tool-and-file handle. Oh, and the ignition screwdriver with the pocket clip is perfect, but VACO. Nice placeholder. The sockets are all 1/2- and 3/8-inch drive post-war =CRAFTSMAN= Heritage era =V=.

Greg,
Is that an Indiana Jones fedora in the background and the strap from a leather shoulder bag? If so, we've got to see you in the entire garb!

Oddly the wrong forum member for an Indi inspired motif, wouldn’t you agree....Mr. Jones?

Doc, did you save any boxes and crates from your foray into the depths of the tool graveyard? (In search of the Holy Grail)

Hahaha. Raiders of the Lost Ordnance Depot?
No, it's not a fedora, and it's not brown. It's green. More like a riverdriver's or bushranger's hat. The leather shoulder strap is on my OD green flea bag, I had to replace the original strap.

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
This is yesterday's small haul.
CONTENTS (Top to bottom, left to right)
- c. 1905-1911 Sawyer Tool Co / Fitchburg, Mass. U.S.A. screwdriver
- Unmarked GMTK ignition screwdrivers
- Wartime Bonney BW8 8" adjustable crescent wrench
- Two (2) Proto L.A. 6" adjustable crescent wrenches, J.P. Danielson, 1950, 1955
- 8" machinist dividers, Lowentraub Mfgr Co, Newark, N.J., with martial "< U. S.>" mark, MADE IN AMERICA. I'm pretty sure this is WWI or interwar. )
- Dwarfie offset DBEs are Plvmb 8161 and an Indestro Select Steel 3/8 x 7/16
- Antique era farm multitool is a #3 PLANET JR
- Tin/leather punch is American Swiss marked "Elizabeth, N.J." on the tang and "A.S.F.&T. CO." on the flip side.
- The midget socket set is SK Brazil brand (thanks again for the ID help, Don!), probably pre-war, but man are these nice looking sockets. The guy had just sold the ratchet 15 minutes before I got there! Needless to say, I was disappointed to hear that. But this set may not take a ratchet and it may not have been an SK Brazil brand beavertail anyway.
- Tappet wrenches are both wartime, a Vlchek ALLOY STEEL 92, and a strange cad-plated Lectrolite
- DOE's are another Made in England 'Snail' logo (I am fond of them) and a carbon steel wartime Herbrand.
- The robust female-female knuckle joint is a Walden-Worcester 1102, also appears to be cad-plated.
I'll be posting close-ups below

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
Traditionally, Easter Sunday is sort of the unofficial "Opening Day" for flea markets around here, even though the hard-core sellers and buyers are out all winter long, and it's been filling up for weeks. Well, it was a big bust today. I came home with one item, and that was a mercy purchase, just to justify the drive out there! HAHA.
Duro-Chrome E65 ignition wrench. Appears to be plated and the brand is not arcing, but straight across the face of the head. Looks post-war to me. No clue on the "US-MM-1" inscription. That is the classification for a Machinists' Mate, Petty Officer First Class, but that's just a SWAG.

Re: My 2018 Flea Finds
Here are some close-ups of a few of the more interesting tools from yesterday...
Those SK Brazil set sockets
The 8" dividers that appear to have a martial "< U.S. >" mark.
Plomb DBE
The Lectrolite tappet wrench with cadmium plating residue and the strang markings. If that ".05" is a compositional percentage amount of Cr and V, as AA claims, it's a whole magnitude less than the MINIMUM amount of Cr allowed after restrictions (which was 0.6%), and half the amount of Vanadium (0.1%) that was put in pre-war AISI Chrome-Vanadium formulas. ??

The Bonney adjustable. Pretty sure it's wartime. It has the right model number from the 1941 catalog and it has the right COO marking, unfortunately marred by the drill hole. I suppose it could be late 1930's, but without a way to know that for sure, it's good enough for me! I have never seen one before, so I am pretty pleased with this find.
Without even trying, I have a set of these wartime carbon steel Herbrand's going. Well, I have the book ends (731-A, and 723) with nothing in the middle, to be more precise.
Here is that double-bow leather cutting punch, made by American Swiss. Looks pre-war to me.
And just for curiosity, the 1950 and 1955 Proto L.A. JPD-made adjustables...
