One of them is marked Mc Sabina.
Probably 'MAC Sabina'.

I would love to see a photo of a drain plug wrench with a 'MAC Sabina' and FSN stamped on it!

Greg, I tried just now to photograph it, unsuccesfully. Will try again tomorrow with natural light.
ON
I confirm it has MAC SABINA O on one side, and 41-W-1962 50 on the adiacent (not the opposite!) side.

EDITED:

Greg, this morning I found that this old thread has been thankfully retrieved.

My MAC SABINA is exactly like the one posted there!

I just saw it, thanks. Quite the controversial object! With many scantily-researched yet boldly-declared statements about its age. I will add my comments on that thread.

Phil Jones posted this photo...

Image

...on this random whatzit thread, which prompted me to look it up in the March 45 ORD 5 SNL J-4:

"41-W-1555 | A171152 | WRENCH, magneto, w/0.012 thickness gage, size of opening 1/4..."

Not sure if Phil owns the wrench or not, but it looks like an eBay ad photo to me.
I found out a little more about this wrench. After WW1 ended, The Scintilla Magneto Company, a Swiss company, started a manufacturing plant in Sidney, NY. They were later purchased by the Bendix Aviation Corporation in 1929. Their production of Bendix Magnetos expanded significantly in 1935 and continued until the end of WW2. Because of their durability and dependability many are still around today. Bendix Magnetos were used on the Allison V-1710 engine found in many aircraft including the P-38, P-39, P-40, P-51A, P-63 and P-82 and many others. As best I can tell the magnetos were used to produce high voltage to fire aircraft spark plugs. Other than servicing the magneto I do not know the exact role of this wrench.

Here are Len Jones’ drain plug wrenches that he sent me this picture of. I forgot to post it on this thread. If he sees the picture perhaps he will add details.

Great idea Steve. Here is a pair of identical and controversial Kent-Moore Organisation tappet wrenches that have an (in)correct FSN and which Roger - alias Silly's MB - argued were marked with a "Bonney Zenel type" date code for July (?) 1944 (G.V). I wish I could add them to my MB's toolkit, but they are not the correct size at 11/32 in x 17/32 in. The following is an interesting saga about these wrenches. According to Kevin Monahan, wrench 41-W-3575 is referred to in TM9-1803A dated Feb 1944. Tom believes this maybe a typo for the Jeep tappet wrench number 41-W-3573 (7/16 inx1/2 in).

Thanks all, for sharing and keeping this thread useful!

I've updated the pics at Post 1 of this thread, which are the spreadsheets. If they're difficult to make out, let me know and I'll attempt to rewicker them. I don't do enough of that to be good at it....

I recently picked up this 41-W-450 15" automotive adjustable wrench. Not sure of the era, but couldn't leave it hanging in the weather where I got it.

It was used in the 2d Echelon #1 and #2 Common (Luke, that may bring back fond memories!), as well as the 3d Echelon #1, #2 Common and the Armored Forces toolbox.

Great find, Steve. Here is an RA PD image from 1945.

Thanks, Don!

That's a LOT of wrench...not sure what I'd ever use it for, as I already have 2 (?) Moore 12" wrenches. But when I saw that FSN hanging on the side of the building, it was an auto pickup :)

I found the sets where it was used from ORD 6 SNL G-27 (July, 1945), p. 266. Discovering that matrix in the back of the manual was pretty useful! Fortunately, I only ever heard "war stories" from the battalion motor sergeant about inventorying the "#1 and #2 Common" sets. After a VERY quick review of that pamphlet, I understood why he grumbled about it so loudly that 20+ years later, I can still hear him....

Steve, All,

yesterday I found a "41-W-3631" stamped 1/2-inch drive 0-175 ft lbs torque wrench made by APCO-Mossberg. I posted photos on my flea find thread. Just want to make sure I cross-link it here.

Your Apco-Mossberg torque wrench is a perfect example of not needing to worry too much about the tool matching the RA PD image. The Torque Wrench shown two posts up doesn't resemble the one you found at all but it would be hard to argue with the legitimacy of your new FSN marked example.
