Re: MAC & War Tools
FWIW, here's my lone plain steel MAC wrench. The DBE is 5/8" on both ends with one being 6 point and the other 12 point. The 12 point end appears to have a 15 degree angle.

Re: MAC & War Tools
I got a PM saying none of my photos of MAC wrenches from yesterday (the post just before Bill's) were showing up. Does anyone else NOT see them?

Re: MAC & War Tools
I posted some MAC cad-plated sockets and a cad-plated MAC X2R PAT. PEND. ratchet that can be dated to 1944 on my flea thread, linked here.

Re: MAC & War Tools
For what it's worth with a little digging (Alloy Archive pages below):
They started out in 1938, but didn't really get cranked up too fast with hand hammer forging tools.
1st use of the MAC tool logo 07/01/1945
There's a history page here: http://alloy-artifacts.org/mac-tools.html
Which kind of means they were not producing Wartime level material during WWII.
Early tools were stamped "MAC" (straight out letters, no circle logo) with the model number and fractional sizes on the shank, with "Sabina, Ohio" and "U.S.A." on the reverse.
MAC (and Blackhawk) are now part of Stanley and Black and Decker

Re: MAC & War Tools
Unfortunately, it's not worth very much. AA's research is thin and their conclusions are misleading and erroneous.
That is correct, but since that particular logo is not their first logo, and it's not found on their earliest tools, it's quite irrelevant.
You seem to be unaware that when the Mechanics Tool & Forge Company of Sabina, Ohio formally registered "MAC" as a trademark (#439,367) on July 22, 1948, their trademark application, which can be read here, stated that the "MAC" name had been "continuously used and applied to said goods in applicant's business in interstate commerce since January of 1939." You won't find that on AA, because AA did not bother to pay attention when they looked at the trademark application as part of their history summary. It's only one of several critical pieces of information they missed.
Click on the link in post #1 of this thread for a direct refutation of this statement in the form of a December 1941 newspaper article announcing the company's US Army Air Corps contract and pending "other government" contracts. Note also that I have several other newspaper articles showing that they grew from 1 to 4 buildings and 8 to 100+ employees between 1941 and 1944.W. Re: MAC & War Tools
Well I see it wasn't worth much
No argument from me about the possibility of them making tools for WWII contract (how would I know) I missed the linked article too.
Apologize if I was trying to paint a different picture, I have no vested stake in the subject other than modern military tool sets I've acquired with some MAC tools (specifically nice smooth large size wrench sets).

So, other than the Army Air Corps contract ... we have no documentation on contracts with the other branches, like the Navy?

Those and extra long DOE wrenches sets seem to be one of the areas they really excelled in early.
