Two points I keep trying to make here which seem to get trampled on are this:
1) Using a GOV'T manual for a G540 to claim three vendors supplied wrenches to Ford for the G503 tool kit can't be supported by any other document from FORD. Given the mistakes, omissions and skepticism in the GOV'T manuals we are all aware of, should anyone assembling a factory GPW tool kit rely on a GOV'T replacement part manual for a different vehicle?

2) While Barcalo Buffalo wrenches have multiple mentions/photos/evidence in WWII GPW tool kits and are easily found, the BHM and Duros are relatively scarce and if one does not count those BHMs in factory-new condition in cosmolene (never issued) the numbers of them and the Duros are miniscule in comparison.

So...
a) not a Ford manual....check
b) not a GPW manual....check
c) two supposed mfgers relatively scarce....check
d) lots of BBs around to this day, hardly any BHM/Duros.....check
e) BHMs found in colsmolene....check

hey, if you subtracted the numbers of BHMs and Duros from the "Gov't Contracts Over $50,000" lists....where ARE the rest of them Ford put into GPW kits?

Hmm....found any other mention in a Ford document/G-503 TM for those mfgers yet? Anyhone found a mention of those three in any Ford G540 TM? how about a mention of those three wench mfgers in ANY Ford WWII vehicle TM?
Hello....anybody out there?

Roger, Fred, Luca, et al,

Just as an FYI, I finally updated my table back on page 2 of this thread.

And here is a typed version of some handwritten notes I had made for myself on the G8T TM page that Tom provided, in case anyone finds it useful...

I cannot believe that anyone might have missed this extremely interesting thread, but just in case I am reviving it.
I have assembled, with the invaluable help of Phil Jones, a set of tools aimed at a GPW, based on the information from this very thread.

What do you guys think?

Luca,
Here are my thoughts on this set excluding the repop BBW and LNW.

1. BHM set of DOEs. Is there a better choice? Perhaps not though BB and Duro would be excellent choices as well. (Don, don't have a stroke! I'm still a BB guy!)
2. Heller hammer. Same style/branding as the one found in the Bizal kit. Excellent choice.
3. JP Danielson pliers. Also found in the Bizal kit. Great choice as would be BB.
4. Moore 12" auto. Excellent choice.
5. Irwin shank stamped. Yes, we would rather have a ink stamped Irwin.
6. Fire nozzle adaptor. This may have no longer been part of a '44 GPW if we extrapolate data from when it was removed from the MB set. But as a collector, heck yeah, I want one in my set.
7. SPW. Sure I'd like one stamped GPW but those are hard to come by.

I would go as far as calling this a factory set. What about you?

Phil,no doubts tht the sliding grease gun adapter might be a more accurate choice, and even cheaper, to boot!

As for the ink stamped Irwin, one could be scrounged, if the buyer is willing to pay the unavoidably high price for it.

Not sure of the time frame in which the hub puller was removed from the list: the sooner, the better ! :)

We have been putting the set together as an exercise , in order to implement the information supplied by the SNL G -540.
Who really cares if not the 100% of the audience agrees. Obviously should any one prefer the Barcalo Buffalo flavor, he can have a toolkit assembled accordingly! :)

My selfish reason for reviving this thread once more is that I have decided to reassemble a similar kit: it is aimed at some GPW owner willing to be different.

Of course if one does not have the same trust that myself and other esteemed collectors/researchers have in Ford SNL-540, he should not consider an High Quality toolkit of this kind.
