I found these three 1944 Wright sockets at an estate sale yesterday. Now that your set is complete, what do I do with them? :?

First unambiguous evidence I've seen of a Wright wrench from the WWII timeframe. This 11/16" x 3/4" P22 DOE has a "41+" date code.
Nice find. Whenever something like this pops up, I always wonder the same thing - where the heck are all the others?!

Also, how strange (or telling?) is it that the only mfgrs known for making open end wrenches with hex throats - Cornwell, Mac, and Wright - ALL came from Ohio?

I picked up this "-7" (1937) dated Wright N-35 1/2" drive ell handle today by way of eBay. It's too large to be a GMTK correct 41-H-1501 but it's the only one I've seen to date.

That's a cool find, Bill. I have a few of these larger 1930's jobbies from other mfgrs, including an Indestro and a Craftsman (H). The much smaller 41-H-1501 version is a tool I suspect the govt, and specifically the US Army Ordnance Dept, had a hand in specifying. You never see them in catalogs and it has the Ord TAC ES 422 spec in the ORD 5 (vs. a Mfgrs code). Personally, if I had a heavily Wright oriented MVMTS, I wouldn't hesitate to put it in my box. If only to spark a conversation about how these kits evolved from 1938 to 1942 to 1944 through a lot of push and pull between the QMC, the ORD, and the automotive hand tools industry.

Are we sure that's Wright Tool and Forge and not Wright Aeronautical? :?:
I guess that part number doesn't conform with the typical 8xxx format used by Wright (aeronautical). So, maybe I answered my own question.

Either way, that thing is a MONSTER!

*edit - I couldn't make out the -7 in the image before...

Jason,

The "N-35" is consistent with the numbering scheme for their other 1/2" drive tools (e.g., N-17 is a 12" flex handle, N-11 sliding tee, etc.).

Today's post brought the last piece to make up a Wright 41-W-2620 set. A "44+" dated N-312 8" extension (41-B-309-20) was generously donated by a member of Garage Journal.

Absolutely! EDIT: As an aside, I have all the Wright tools in a post-war GMTK-style box. I can attest that those boxes can hold 80+ pounds of tools!
