Spark plug wrench on GPWs:a question.

Post by lucakiki » Mon Apr 16, 2018 1:36 pm

As most know, the FORD marked spark plug wrenches are quite scarce.

The plain Jane Mossberg made ones are not.

The question is: how should a Mossberg wrench be considered, over being motorpool correct?

A mere filler, or there is a possibility that not all the wrenches in GPW toolkits were GPW marked?

Way too many WWII military tools, hopefully thinning down, and way too many posts...

Luca...

There are about four of the "GPW" numbered SPWs I am aware of so that makes them ultra rare.
However, even more rare is one that has the GPW pat number and the Mossberg markings on it!

Lacking anything definitive, I think the original SPWs were the GPW-marked-only style first.
Following that were the ones with both the GPW part number and the Mossberg marking.
Lastly, the ones with only the Mossberg markings.

With all that in mind, I would answer your question like this:

I don't recall exactly when the tool Kit was included in the GPW, but the GPW part numbered one & the GPW marked and Mossberg marked one were probably the very EARLIEST ones included in the kit.

That kinda of leaves the CORRECT WWII Mossberg marked SPWs for every other jeep and they are, in my opinion not at all "motorpool only".
