Temperature gauge advice please
Hi My Jaeger temperature gauge in my Hotchkiss jeep is staying near the middle 80-90 even when the engine is off and cold. Does any one have any pointers on it being the sender or the gauge before I start taking them off/testing.

Re: Temperature gauge advice please
Hi,
You didn't mention the voltage of the vehicle. I have a mechanical gauge in mine. Be sure you have good power and ground at the gauge first. I checked the wiring schematic on the 24volt m201and could see that the sending unit on the head uses one wire, that being the case with the ignition on removing the wire from the sender the gauge should swing the gauge cold and grounding the wire should swing the gauge hot. If this works then it will be the sending unit. Make sure there is good continuity between the sender wire and the gauge, there should be no resistance. If you get no change then most likely it the gauge that failed. Hope this helps.
Regards,
Paul

Re: Temperature gauge advice please
Hi Paul
When I took the gauge off the contacts looked mucky, I think my jeep spent some time in the South of France or North Africa as there was a lot of sand in it when I did some restoration. I cleaned the contacts and the gauge is now working.
Thanks again for your help
Cheers Stuart
