I have certainly seen one similar to this before and have put it somewhere so safe I can't just find it!

My 3-20-42 GPW, ser. # 6834 has the original plate and it is the same as the one pictured.

Yes, minus about 2mm compared to my MB plate.

This is NOT a factory GPW data plate. It may be a legitimate military replacement or a subcontractor replacement. There are many GPW & MB Serial Number Data Plate styles out there and not all can possibly be a "factory" installed item either.

How can tell that plate is not original? It is the same as the one in TM9-803. As for the plate on my GPW it was riveted
to glove box door and covered with many coats of paint from previous owners.

If you mean the CAUTION plate on page 14 of the TM 9-803, where to start?
The MB data plate looks to be of a design used from around 12/43 to 2/44 onward.

The GPW data plate looks to be of a design used from around Feb. 1944 onward.

The shifting plate seems to be from a GPW (has a border). It seems to be at the very least a later than April 1942 based on layout.

The CAUTION plate looks like the one found on an MB Slat Grill.

Now...if you noticed the plate shown above in your pic....it uses both capitals and lower case letters. The one in the TM 9-803 does not. The one in the slat grill no-glovebox photo I checked uses capitals like the example in the manual.

JD....can you post pics of all three of your data plates?

Chuck
Read your last post. Took notice of the difference in the lettering. My data plate has
all lower case letters. Not computer savvy enough to post pictures.
Thanks for the knowledge.
