No orifice on the oil filter return line. It is or is suppose to be open. No restrictions.
The restriction is where John G. said, in the oil filter stand pipe, inside the oil filter can. A small hole in the side of the stand pipe.

Hello,

Quick update,

Removed the oil pump to check which model it is : it is a timing gear type.

I am just surprised with the look of the hole in the axis ; looks like some grinder was used on it...
There was as well no joint between the pump and the engine carter.

Also checked with a 2nd oil gauge, and low pressure indeed confirmed.

Next week, I will take it back to the back to the "Pro" who rebuilt the engine for getting confirmation of what was done.
In the meanwhile, looking for the best way to get a real Melling M-53 pump shipped to France.

Will keep you posted.

Hello,

Just to finally close on this topic.

I finally ordered a new Melling Pump, and the issue is fixed. No more low oil pressure :D Always stable between 20 and 40 PSI.

Thanks a lot for all your guidance !

There comes a time when appearance has to be secondary and reliability is a must. Oil Pumps do wear out and a new Melling is the cure.
